NATHAN FYFE WINS 2015 BROWNLOW MEDAL
VIEW THE TOP VOTE-WINNERS BY CLUB
Fyfe is the first Fremantle Dockers player to win the league’s highest individual honour and the only player to hold on to claim the award after missing four rounds of the regular season.
Who will be named the AFL‘s best and fairest for season 2015 and awarded the Charles Brownlow Medal? Join The Roar from 7:20pm (AEST) for live coverage as we find out.
There are a number of favourites to take out the honour tonight – let’s take a look at some of the key runners sure to feature at the top of the leaderboard come the end of the count.
Fremantle Dockers
$1.85
Fyfe is by far the favourite to win his first Brownlow Medal after an outstanding season with the ladder-leading Dockers. The Fremantle star was unable to win last year’s award due to suspension (he also fell one point shy of the honour) but he has been the driving force behind Freo’s quest for a first flag in their 20-year history.
Fyfe heads the tally at the Dockers for handballs, disposals, contested possessions and clearances, while drawing second in kicks, contested marks and goal assists. For fantasy fans, he is second in average Supercoach scores, behind only Todd Goldstein.
2015 statistics (as of Round 23)
Goals – 17 (0.9 per game)
Behinds – 14 (0.8 per game)
Kicks – 253 (14.1 per game)
Handballs – 267 (14.8 per game)
Disposals – 520 (28.9 per game)
Marks – 77 (4.3 per game)
Tackles – 76 (4.2 per game)
West Coast Eagles
$4.50
Priddis has been a staple in West Coast’s premiership charge, featuring in 22 games. The midfielder could become the first player since Robert Harvey (1997-98) to win consecutive Brownlow Medals after he polled 26 points last year to take out the gong.
2015 statistics
Goals – 6 (0.3 per game)
Behinds – 4 (0.2 per game)
Kicks – 221 (10 per game)
Handballs – 439 (20 per game)
Disposals – 660 (30 per game)
Marks – 43 (2 per game)
Tackles – 162 (7.4 per game)
Sydney Swans
$8
Hannebery was Sydney’s best performer for 2015, and at the age of just 24 the 2010 Rising Star has become one of the best players in the game. The midfielder or forward had a break-out season, being awarded the 2015 AFL Coaches Association player of the year, polling one vote ahead of Fyfe.
His season also resulted in making the All-Australian team for the second time, having first been named in 2013.
2015 statistics
Goals – 14 (0.6 per game)
Behinds – 7 (0.3 per game)
Kicks – 293 (13.3 per game)
Handballs – 373 (17 per game)
Disposals – 666 (30.3 per game)
Marks – 94 (4.3 per game)
Tackles – 115 (5.2 per game)
Adelaide Crows
$8
Dangerfield was this year named in his third All-Australian team and is one of the best players in the AFL. The top crow(n) in Australian Rules Football had a spectacular season.
2015 statistics
Goals – 20 (1 per game)
Behinds – 14 (0.7 per game)
Kicks – 295 (14 per game)
Handballs – 167 (12.7 per game)
Disposals – 562 (26.8 per game)
Marks – 73 (3.5 per game)
Tackles – 117 (5.6 per game)
The only other notable contenders are Sam Mitchell (Hawthorn Hawks, $11), Todd Goldstein (North Melbourne Kangaroos, $15) and Josh Kennedy (Sydney Swans, $17). While it’s unlikely the award will venture this far down the favourites list, expect one of these players to round out the top five in the count.
Prediction
Nat Fyfe will be awarded his first Brownlow Medal after an outstanding season with the Dockers.

Agreed Balthazar, Nat Fyfe is a true gentlemen, a well deserved win. Barlow seemed furious he didn't get the nod. When he first came out with his cane, I thought it was in the name of fashion and his injury went to the back of the mind. Fyfe will live on forever as one of the greats at the Dockers.

Well done Fyfey. Classy and entertaining speech (although my favourite bit was Barlow snapping Fyfe's cane, poor bugger) wasn't going to watch that but relented in the last 15 minutes. "I live and die for Fremantle".

Fyfe hangs on! Great to see the grin on his face when he realised he's won. Thoroughly deserved. I suspect it won't be his last. And as a footnote, the three votes to Sam Mitchell in Round 23 take him to number five on the list of career Brownlow votes - more than anyone else who hasn't won it. Remarkable for a player who's so often under-rated.

Mitchell out of it now. Missed Round 22, so he can't win. Priddis needs two BOGs in his last three games to make it a draw. Can't see it happening.

To win Hannebery must win 3 votes in every game for the rest of the game. Nat Fyfe remains in front, six votes ahead of Priddis followed by Sam Mitchell and Dan Hannebery. It now appears to be a two-horse race between Nat Fyfe and Matt Priddis.
