The AFL’s best descended on Melbourne on Monday night to see who would claim the league’s highest individual honour.
Nathan Fyfe was widely tipped to take an insurmountable lead in the first half of the season, but things didn’t get off to the perfect start for the favourite, only polling votes in one of the first three rounds.
However, Fyfe would go on a barnstorming run from that point, polling 17 votes in the first eight rounds, surpassing the previous record of 16 votes in the first eight rounds held by dual Brownlow Medalist, Chris Judd.
Fyfe’s incredible first half of the season continued as he racked up 29 votes after 15 Rounds, but last year’s winner, Matt Priddis remained hot on his tail.
In what was set up to be a thrilling finish, with two rounds to go, Priddis sat on 27 votes, four behind Fyfe on 31. However, Priddis was unable to poll any votes in the Eagles’ Round 22 loss to the Crows, making Nathan Fyfe the 2015 Brownlow Medalist.
Fyfe is the first player from the Fremantle Dockers to claim the game’s highest individual honour.
Brownlow Medal Top Five:
1. Nathan Fyfe 31
2. Matt Priddis 28
3. Sam Mitchell 26
4. Josh Kennedy 25
5. Dan Hannebery 24
