Vladimir Putin 'dominates' hockey match on his 63rd birthday

By Benjamin Conkey / Editor

Barely a week after North Korea’s dear leader Kim Jong-un reportedly blasted 807 not out in a cricket match, Russian President Vladimir Putin has raised the bar for what world leaders are capable of in sport.

Unlike Kim’s monumental batting performance, Putin’s efforts were actually captured on live television in Russia. It was his 63rd birthday, so what better way to celebrate than an exhibition of your own abilities?

Playing on a team of former NHL stars, Putin’s opposition was a selection of Russian officials and tycoons. For some reason the opposition appeared to be rather generous in defending the goals and Putin took advantage of their lack of ‘concentration’ scoring seven times.

It didn’t quite match his eight goals during a similar exhibition back in May, much to the disappointment of punters who couldn’t resist the $3 odds of Putin scoring 10-goals or more.

Betting agencies did, however lose out on Putin being first goal scorer.

Like the annexation of territories, Putin continues to add new sport skills to his bow. He grew up on a diet of judo but since then has branched out to Formula One, downhill skiing, and bear wrestling.

His example of trying new things and dominating on your first go is a great lesson for all Russians.

‘If at first you don’t succeed, destroy the tape and try again.’

If only John Howard had taken that advice.

Hoping his next sport is rugby, just so he can feed the scrum and the commentators have to say "It's a Putin put in".

Did the Dallas Stars sent their defensive corps over to play? If so, it makes perfect sense! ;)
