Richie McCaw not cited after Rugby World Cup semi-final

By The Roar / Editor

New Zealand captain Richie McCaw is free to play in the Rugby World Cup final after no citings were announced after the semi-finals.

There was some concern that McCaw could be cited for a stray elbow, but those concerns were quickly allayed by World Rugby this morning.

“There are no citings from the semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa,” a World Rugby spokesman told the media.

World Rugby spokesman Dominic Rumbles made the announcement at Twickenham after the Australia-Argentina semi-final.

He says the citing commissioner for that match, with the benefit of 30-plus television cameras, determined that a video on social media showing one angle of McCaw coming into contact with Francois Louw, was reviewed and proved to be the veteran New Zealand flanker’s hip clipping the South African backrower’s right shoulder.

Francois Lowe, the player who went down in the video above, had 16 stitches after the game, but said he didn’t think that was the incident that caused the damage.

This will mean New Zealand will be free to select their talisman for the final, which will be played at 3am on Sunday morning AEDT.

New Zealand won their semi-final over South Africa 20-18, and they will face Australia, who beat Argentina 29-15 on Monday morning.

The real story of the World cup has been missed by the English "Journalists' from the Daily Telegraph, the Times and The Guardian. While they were led by Brian Moore into a story about McCaw, they missed the sighting of several very upset Dwarfs leaving the post-mortum of the English Rugby team. Apparently they were lured there by reports of a sleeping beauty being on site. Reliable reports indicate that they were accosted by a group of large men wearing snow white uniforms. While some Dwarves muttered darkly about Dwarf tossing taking place, video footage clearly shows that the Dwarves feet never left the ground. The Dwarfs were adamant that tossing had indeed taken place just not of the kind they were usually accustomed to.

You said it quite a while ago. Possibly last season. It certainly is not a lie. It was such a ridiculous comment, that it stayed with me. You make so many anti-mccaw, anti-kiwi rants, how could you possibly remember them all?

Well Pk, clearly the "offence' is wedged in your mind, so it's quite safe, it's completely alone in there.

I am truly outraged with this decision. It is like a cross between the Congo Free State genocide and Tony Abbott's radio wink - a massive scandal.

Pretty much nailed it. For mine so much of what's now cited is just incidental to rugby that it's bordering on ridiculous. If a player is put in serious danger, i.e. danger beyond what might otherwise occur within the rules of the game (lifting tackle, high-shot, gouging etc) then of course there is a case to be answered but things like "lifting the knees", or borderline "striking" charges and in particular half-cocked tackles with insufficient use of the arms (see Arg v Aus in the quarter final) should be sorted on the field. If the ref sees no need for a citation and someone cops a knock, well then I would just say that's part of rugby.

The uproar caused such a stink that the citing commissioner had a quick view of various footage, applied snickometre, and concluded flatulance led to Lowe being repelled sevely. Tests later showed he still had significant amounts of methane in his system

This is a complete NON STORY the so called journalists that tried to taint him with this should be held accountable. If anyone of you had of watched the slowed down blown up footage you would have seen his HIP hit his shoulder as he ran past. Yes McCaw pushes the boundaries like any world class Openside does, Pocock does, Hooper does, George Smith did it on the same regularity as McCaw. BUT in saying that I have NEVER seen him cheap shot anyone hell I haven't even seen him retaliate when he has cheap shots against him. This is absolutely ridiculous and I can't believe it even made the news, should have stayed on social media where it belonged.
