Hayne staying put in NFL

By News / Wire

Jarryd Hayne will be staying put in the NFL and won’t be making a return to the NRL, according to the superstar’s Australian agent.

NRL clubs have contacted Hayne’s manager Wayne Beavis in recent weeks stating their interest in his star client, but the agent says he has contacted Hayne and the 27-year-old is staying put.

“I spoke to him (Hayne) this afternoon (Thursday),” Beavis told Rugby League Week.

“The conversation about him coming home has never taken place.

“He told me he’s definitely staying. That’s it, end of story. There isn’t a decision to make, that’s what he’s telling me.

“Every club is ringing me up saying if he comes home, we’re interested. That’s only natural. It doesn’t mean he’s coming back.”

Hayne has been absent from the San Francisco 49ers’ playing side for the past month, and is currently training with the franchise’s practice squad after the other 31 NFL clubs opted not to sign him when he became a free agent earlier in November.

Reports emerged this week that Sydney Roosters supremo Nick Politis and Penrith general manager Phil Gould were engaged in a bidding war for Hayne’s services.

Hayne is also reported to have signed a lifetime deal with Parramatta, guaranteeing his return to the club if he does head back to the NRL.

Obviously Nigel G/PW/Dave I'm glad you are not my math's lecturer .Maths is obviously not one of your strong points. In fact I'm scratching to find any of your strong points.B grade trolling perhaps. If such a code is "4" times bigger, then they would need to average at least 60,000 per game per season, earn 4 times the revenue, 4 times the membership,4 times the participation,4 times the Tv contract.Quite obviously anyone with an ounce of grey matter, knows that is, let us say "pulling the other one". Who are the Queensland Reds,Apache immigrants from North America? Didn't realise they played rugby league, they must be talented.

AFL is 4 times bigger than the circus. Happy to burst your bubble Crossie , its morphing into Aus biggest football code. BTW wasn't it the Queensland Reds that was playing SOO?

Good to see Hayne's PR team have promoted him to superstar status! Even though he's not even in the 49ers playing squad they're still pumping out BS.

Oh yeah, this nigel g guy sounds like a loose her haha. Crosscoder gives quality posts. This has been haynes dream and he is throwing aside all reason and the reporters (whom he's known for years what they are like) have gotten to him. He's been on the field maybe 25 seconds since he started, and he can expect several minutes over the next 10 years, if that. Its his choice. Good luck to him. But tabloids are lame

Since leaving the NRL sept 2014 he has had approx 2-3 mins actual game time and this is unlikely to change for the remainder of the season. I'm still struggling to understand why he's doing this? What an obvious waist of his talent and time. Stop flogging a dead horse and return home.

Whats a matter crossgen ? I coach a Marist under 11 RL team , played for Mt Albert in 90's , season warrior ticket holder for 20 years , been to the 9's and going next year. But Im not an NRL lover , its an insecure sport worried about its image and less about RL. BTW AFL is 4 x bigger and better than NRL and is slowly turning QLD and NSW into aerial ping pong states. I would mention Melbourne but there in the QLD cup , the cowboys ex QLD , Titans slowly nut surely sinking. BTW my old fav Norths might bet a breath of Life BTW 90000!! G

Biggest media organisation fighting over the NRL to get it on Pay TV here Nigel G. Just stick to your sport , forever girt by sea. Your love of rugby league is plainly obvious (hic) And the NRL is all the better for Burgess's return. NFL dwarfs most sports, however it is not played globally in the true sense of the word. BTW with 90,000 plus people in attendance at the G for the SOO,whatever an ignorant mayor states is neither here nor there.

Yeah AFL bigger and NRL is still peanuts in Aus. Burgess creid for his mummy and warmer weather and walked out with all the excuses in the world with his tail between his leagues. BTW NFL dwarfs the peanut NRL multi billion dollar wise and is known in more countries than NSWRL with QLD and Akld added in. I think Melbourne mayor introduction of the Queensland Reds in SOO sums it up. Grim speaking

He is determined to stick it out. That means IMO either he gets an NFL gig after a decent long term effort or he will come back to Parramatta knowing he has given it his best shot, with his head held high. This " peanut in world sports" Nigel G is probably going to crack close to a $2bn Tv deal. That is hardly peanuts.Burgess also understands there are sports other than the one he tried, that are just as if not more enjoyable. BTW the NFL is not a global sport .

Good on him , unlike the quitter Burgess he finally understands that the NRLis a peanut amongst global sports. He's been de activated and rw activated , this boy ain't coming back to NRL and he's NO QUITTER!!

His position is clear while there is still a chance he might play before season end, however, you'll find not even his pride can keep him from home and the NRL.

Good on Hayne for sticking it out. He has suffered his 1st major set back but he's prepared to stay with it & fight for his spot instead of chucking it all in because it was too hard.
