WATCH: Rod Marsh has no idea what Shaun Tait's name is

By Roar TV / Roar Guru

As Chairman of Selectors, one of Rod Marsh’s primary duties is to know the names of the players his selects.

He failed in that duty today.

Perhaps having a bit of a senior moment, Marsh muffed the announcement of ‘Shane Tait’ when revealing Australia’s T20 squad to face in India.

Fellow former international representative Shane Watson also made the cut, as did ten other players who weren’t in the last squad.

Bizarre criticism - there was a Shane and Shaun mentioned in the interview and it was a slip of the tongue - fair dinkum look in the mirror....

This article's criticism is far more worthy of criticism than Marsh...who interrupted questioning to correct himself anyway. Is this a new national sport? People who have achieved very little of note madly salivate in their urgency to point out the mistake of an achiever. What does it achieve?

I agree that it'll make up the bulk of the squad, but I don't think it represents the final squad. I'd be surprised if Mitchel Marsh isn't in the final squad. I suspect they just want him to have a rest before we go to New Zealand. I also think that it's unlikely Tait will go, we're just suffering from quite a few injuries in the fast bowling department at the moment, but I believe NCN will be back for the T20 World Cup? If so, he'll be in ahead of Tait, surly.

This is likely to be the bulk of players chosen for the WC I am thinking. A sort of late audition. A number of incumbents have been selected who do not perform on Aussie spinning tracks. How are they going to go on big turning dust bowls in India. We want blokes who use their feet and all the crease against spin not risky slog and reverse sweepers. Would have had George Bailey. Mitchell Marsh and Peter Handscomb in my squad.

I don't care the he forgot his name, I'm more concerned he was selected in the first place...

This isn't the World Cup squad, this is just for the three games against India next week, so I dunno what "Spin Capital of the World" you're talking about.

You just answered your own argument for having Watson in the squad.....India. It was a good selection. He has always performed well in the shorter form.

I get my kids names mixed up too. It's just a muddled mind mix up. Happens to me all the time.

Plenty of spin in the squad. At least CA got that right as it is being played in the spin capital of the world... India. I know Lyon is so popular that saying he should not have been selected is almost sacrilegious. But here goes. He should not have been selected. He is too one dimensional and predictable for short format cricket. Took a hammering in a couple of BBL games as the big hitters targeted his same old, same old deliveries. Prefer someone like Zampa or Fawad or the ageless Brad Hogg... bowlers that spin the ball both ways and have other variations that do not allow a batsman to get into any sort of rhythm.

As the only pace all rounder in the squad Watson will need to produce the sort of form he did in 2012 T20 WC. Not sure he can. He comes off once every five to six innings and his bowling is nowhere near as potent or penetrative as it once was. His BBL form with both bat and ball did not exactly set anything alight. Looks like a token selection. A chance to send Watto into retirement on a high.

Pleased as punch that exciting power hitters Travis Head and Chris Lynn have made the squad. Joining an awesome batting lineup of Warner, Maxwell and Smith. George Bailey was very unlucky. Would have had him in for either Finch or Watson. Is a better player of spin. CA just refuse to put Watson out to pasture. Is still in the stalls. Mitch Marsh would have been a better bet. even Marcus Stoinis.

Marsh also forgot that Tait is not known as The Wild Thing for nothing. Is still an erratic bowler. Nothing has changed since he last pulled on the Aussie duds. Got the nod because of CA's obsession with extreme pace. How did Boland make the squad over the in form Clint McKay? Has had the chance to impress in last three ODIs. Did not in my view. McKay, on the other hand is in the form that saw him become one of Australia's best limited overs bowlers.

Little bit ageism here in all due respects. Marsh is few years older than me and I sometimes get the names of my staff wrong - not because I don't value them its just as you get over 55 and these things happen. To say he failed his duty is a harsh judgemental statement by someone who hasn't contributed or achieved for cricket anything compared to R Marsh. Perhaps it is "soft ageism".
