Manly's Koroisau facing court charge

By News / Wire

Manly NRL recruit Apisai Koroisau is facing a charge of illegally entering a property in Bondi on December 20.

The hooker’s case briefly went before the courts on January 25, and the Sea Eagles confirmed on Monday that the NRL Integrity Unit was aware of the matter, which came just months after Koroisau’s partner died.

“The incident follows some extenuating circumstances in Apisai’s personal life,” the club said in a statement.

“The Sea Eagles are providing Apisai with the necessary support during this time.”

The 23-year-old, who has previously played for South Sydney and Penrith, is next due to face Waverley Local Court on February 17.

The issue further complicates injury-hit Manly’s hooker concerns heading into the NRL season.

The club lost stalwart rake Matt Ballin to West Tigers in the off-season and back-up hooker Jayden Hodges suffered a suspected season-ending knee injury at the weekend’s Auckland Nines, where possible stand-in Jamie Buhrer copped a broken jaw.

I do worry LM about stepping straight in at #1 as the positional play defensively is something that takes time get a feel for and often gets overlooked but then we don't have a real fullback for him to learn from so I don't think holding him out and putting Fergo back there solves anything. I don't see Fergo as the most natural decision maker. He often seemed on a different page to his support players when he made breaks last year. Not a huge concern for a centre (whose job is to break the line) but it worries me as a fullback who will have more decision making to do. My other concern is Evans. It’s just a niggling feeling I get, after being massively high on him last year, that his positive traits don’t translate that well. He’s bloody tall with gorilla arms that should be able to offload around players SBW style and he’s bloody quick in the open field which is scary for a prop, but... He’s fast when he gets in stride but he doesn’t seem quick off the mark and to me he always seems to hit the line slow, without power and on the wrong angle. It’s like he’s trying footwork at the line but it’s about as good as my left foot step (which was once described as “going straight but slower” by one of my team mates) and his huge frame can also be a disadvantage as his centre of gravity is really high and he doesn’t have the strength to offset it at the play of the ball or really have the confidence for those well timed off loads.

That would be ideal Baz but we'd need an established fullback or we look at this coming season as a rebuild.

Yeah - I was very impressed in the 9s...haven't seen much of him otherwise. Do you think he might start on the wing a la minichello and RTS?

I've been banging on about him for some time. He's a complete fullback with great vision and attacking instincts. He does make a few errors in the 20s which is understandable with the amount of possessions. He is their go to man. I didn't realise how big he was until i stood next to him at a Roosters fan day. At 104 kg and 193cm tall, there's not much size difference between him and GI. If we don't sign Hayne, i'd be tempted to start Mitchell at fullback and leave Fergo at right centre with SKD or Burgess on the wing. Moving Fergo to fullback will potentially weaken 3 positions and leaves us with no strike in the centres. Nikorima is another one to look out for. I've watched him train and the lad has plenty of ability.

What are your thoughts on lattrel Mitchell muzz and Pete. Is he ready for first grade? He was pretty impressive in the 9s but obviously a very different game.

All good. The young boys played well in the 9's. Manu is a gun. The future looks bright.

It looks like even the media are treading lightly on this one. I figured the Daily Telegraph would have this up in lights on their website. But it is hidden away, you really have to search for it. No trial by media which is great to see.

Please don’t let Muzz be the ambassador for all Roosters supporters as some of us do view the suicide of your partner as an extenuating circumstance. I think this is one best left to the authorities to decide if on balance there is a social wrong that needs to be righted. I can’t see Johnny public being too up in arms on this one, at least I hope not.

I agree...most of the comments here bagging Pearce were from non rugby league people who haven't been sighted since and won't front until there's another controversy. It wasn't about one club v another. If Koroisau has broken the law - regardless of what extenuating circumstances exist - there will be a penalty that he should pay. I think most of us will agree. But as rugby league people lets not race to hang, draw and quarter him until we know the full story, regardless of club allegiance.

Absolutely Will. Api singled out his partner when he signed with Manly last July. That having a 3 year contract would provide stability in their life and they could start to build their life together. A few months later and he finds her dead. Terribly sad.

Yeah, easy to forget that these players are human beings, and any one of us would struggle if we had suffered a loss like Koroisau has.

Muzz, I was one of Pearce's biggest supporters. I'd like to think we are above turning these matters into a club v club thing. In any case, this incident is probably a little sensitive in nature given Apisai's partner took her own life only a few months ago. As such the club has said this is a minor incident and will continue to support him through a difficult period in his life.

He was only trying to rescue a distressed poodle. Where are all the Manly supporters that gave it to Pearce? Crickets..................................
