Mel McLaughlin moves from Channel Ten to Channel Seven

By The Roar / Editor

High profile television presenter Mel McLaughlin has made her second move in three years, this time jumping ship from Channel Ten to Channel Seven.

McLauglin is a well-respected and well-followed sports journalist who most recently hosted the 2016 Big Bash League, as well as the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2014 Winter Olympics.

She began her career at Fox Sports as a presenter, both on Fox Sports News and in hosting the network’s A-League coverage.

Her move has sparked further speculation around Seven’s role in the A-League rights negotiations, with her passion for Australia’s football competition being well known.

At present, however, it is being reported that she will take up the role with Seven to cover the 2016 Rio Olympics, and we can see why after the job she did on the Sochi Games and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

News Corp Australia had the scoop, saying McLaugulin chose not to renew her deal with Ten just months after the infamous Chris Gayle incident, where he told her not to blush in a cringeworthy sideline interview.

If Seven were to get the A-League rights, and McLaughlin were to host the coverage, it would be much to the joy of football fans, among whom she was very popular in her time at Fox Sports.

Mel's a star. I hope she's been brought in for football specific tasks such as the HAL and Olympics . The Matilda's are on tonight at 9.30 pm on 7 Mate .

What a waste of talent. C7 will be sending her to interview the stars of home and away quarter time breaks of Collingwood vs Adelaide. She deserves better, but I suppose money talks.

I was sad when she left the Fox A-League coverage but I am more than happy with Tara Rushton thank you. What a dilemma it would be for me if Mel went to cover the A-League on SBS.

Since when is telling a joke about Johnny Warren off limits? The joke wasn't mean spirited.

All FTA networks are my least preferred option, but if they are able to have a presenter who not only knows football, has played football and cares about football then that is a MASSIVE bonus - Mel is all of that. Still, I'm happy with Fox having the rights to the A-league, they do a great job with it.

I remember you made a joke about Johnny Warren being diagnosed with cancer. I've never been more disgusted by anyone on this forum as you disgusted me with that comment. So, boorish yobbos.. as they say: "if the moccasin fits".

Wow, you are full of compliments regarding the Cricket community. Bogans and boorish yobbos. If only that had the class of the average soccer fan.

Maybe the people she interacts with on Aleague are well-mannered & respectful. Not boorish yobbos.

Maybe it was the people she was interviewing or presenting with. You know she had to lower herself to the 'ocker' level to fit in with the demographic.

SVB - I'm not saying she is a bimbo, far from it. However, she is not the total package as she is an average speaker. Maybe on the A League she was comfortable as she was aware that the audience was very small, but she struggled on the bigger stage of the BBL.

That's angry talk dude, your angry because you are not putting your passion into something you love. Your pretending unfortunately, like someone who may pretend to have a law degree. You seem to be stereotyping even though you don't like that silliness being returned. Find what you enjoy mate. Find and embrace something you genuinely care about. Be happy dude.

At Fox Football the worst she ever had to endure was an angry Tim Cahill (Japan WCQ June 2009 @ MCG after he had bad press in the DT). Will Ten try to lure Tara Rushton?

You're kidding if you think she struggles to put a sentence together. She is far from being a bimbo. A great smile and down to earth personality, well spoken and looks great on the camera. .

Hey "dude" go away. Go do what people who say "dude" usually do .. smoke some marijuana, inject yourself, or pop a pill... then fall asleep until it's time to head to CentreLink.
