Dragons coach Paul McGregor arrested for drink driving

By The Roar / Editor

St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor is due for a date in court after allegedly being charged with drink-driving.

As reported by Channel Seven’s Josh Massoud, the Dragons coach was pulled over on Sunday morning by police, and failed a roadside breath test.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to Wollongong police station, where he recorded a blood alcohol level reading of 0.063 – slightly over the limit of 0.05.

McGregor was then charged with low-level drink-driving, and issued a court attendance notice.

The date of the court appearance is not yet known.

The NRL was reportedly unaware of the incident as of Thursday morning, and is currently waiting for a report on the incident from the Dragons.

Under McGregor, the Red V started the NRL season in ordinary fashion, winning just two of their first six games and going scoreless in consecutive outings against the Cowboys and Broncos. However, two wins in their past two games seemed to have turned their season around.

McGregor had the following the say:

“I was in total disbelief at the reading given the time frame between my last drink and the incident. I’m extremely disappointed with myself and totally understand the problems that can and could have arisen from my poor decision. It was a mistake, a gross error of judgement and one that I deeply regret”.

McGreggor is auditioning for Warriors job. He'd fit in real well with Manu and the other senior players who made the headlines this morning for an all night bender after the 42-0 score line with the Storm. The only problem is someone forgot to tell Manu the score line was against them. I guess Graham Lowe wasn't far off the mark when he said the Warriors had a problem with a "bro-culture" ... lose 42-0 ....sweet as bro

There's some karma for you. Thankfully the coach that encourages his players to feign didn't cause a fatality. Your a dis grace McGregor!

I really detest guys like the Twitter comment that day he should be sacked. As a joke I think most NRL coaches would have been let go if they were caught at 0.06 by local police

Must have been too much celebrating after the lucky win on Monday lol but seriously, Its not going to be that drastic, he will cop a court fine (but his punishment will depends on his previous record and if he had a DUI) and if he’s clean the court will let him off on a section 10, but that will take 3 months, but by his low reading of 0.063 his licence wouldn’t of been taken away from him, so he is sweet and can go on with his business until the court case. But it was a stupid thing to do especially driving after a big drink the night before and getting caught early in the morning, he should have known better!

Dragons didn't play till Monday...maybe he was still celebrating the three tries against the Titans from the week before...?

He should have laid down and pretended he was sleeping. "Honestly officer, I wasn't diving, I mean driving. I said it, so it must be true."

It appears that Mary had an epic Saturday night. He was done at 8.45am on Sunday morning, so still plenty in his system from the night before. Stay in bed next time, or get someone else to drive to Maccas for the recovery meal.

Not good, but honestly I doubt any of the holier than thou judgmentalists acting like it's the end of the world are perfect either somehow. Easy enough mistake to make thinking you're good to go the morning after.
