The Richmond Tigers are against the world – and also the Hawthorn Hawks – on Friday night at the MCG. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting at 7:50pm AEST.
Okay, Richmond aren’t actually against the world – but that’s how it must feel when they come up against the reigning triple premiers while themselves having a 1-5 formline so far this season.
Granted, the Hawks are coming into this off their worst loss in recent memory, going down by 75 points to the GWS Giants last week, but if history has taught as anything it’s that they always bounce back strong.
To make matters worse, the Tigers are missing their captain Trent Cotchin due to injury and arguably their best player Alex Rance due to suspension.
Richmond are under siege at the moment – there are mixed messages coming out of the club, rumours of a review going on internally, and questions being asked publicly about the coach and the football department.
What they would really love more than anything right now is a nice big win to quiet the doubters a little and give them some relief from outside pressure – and there would be no win bigger than one over the Hawks.
Unfortunately, that just doesn’t look likely to happen, despite the fact that the Tigers have a solid record over Hawthorn in recent years, all signs point towards another loss tonight.
The Hawks themselves will be wanting to make a statement after their poor effort last week and while they are missing captain Luke Hodge, they still have more than enough star power to put away the Tigers.
Prediction
It’ll be an earth-shattering result if this one turns out to be anything other than a Hawthorn win, and one would expect it will be by a comfortable margin.
Hawks by 36.

As Penster pointed out on another thread, the Hawks also won the 2015 Grand Final by 46 points. So Hawthorn's last six wins are by 46, 46, 3, 3, 3, 46. Weird.

That sounds like a McAvaney stat...

Well...I'd like to say I almost tipped that one right, but I just didn't. Well done Hawks. Not even sure how the Tiges managed to lose by that much - impressive effort their last 10 minutes!

Hawks have five wins this year. And every single one of them is by either 3 points or 46 points.
