Carlton's Casboult to miss 6-8 weeks

By News / Wire

Carlton spearhead Levi Casboult has avoided a season-ending knee injury but will sit out at least the next six weeks after breaking his leg.

The key forward slumped to the ground in the opening minutes of his side’s match with Port Adelaide after marking strongly in a contest with Power defender Tom Jonas.

Casboult couldn’t get up, grimacing and calling for assistance from the Carlton bench.

He played no further part in the match, transferred to the Carlton rooms and later receiving scans on his left knee.

They showed a hairline fracture of his left tibia, which will not require surgery but will sit Casboult out for 6-8 weeks.

Carl I think that is a bit harsh on Jones. While I didn't agree with the 4 year contract and thought last year his contribution was negligible at best I've seen a bit more to like this year. Defensively he has been good harassing the defenders and blocking space - this was very evident when I went to the Essendon game and saw his work off the ball. In the air he is competing well and is rarely if ever beaten. He still needs to get smarter with his leading patterns to get a few easier balls on the lead as he is always competing in the air. His kicking has been OK. Basically he can be relied on to provide a contest and is getting to more of them so is having more of an impact. I think they should persist at least until the others you mention, McKay and Curnow, are ready to take on the role - which may not be until at least next year.

Typical, just when the Blueboys are starting to come good. The injury toll to stars begins. We are forced to play Liam Jones because we have such a slim forward line. One thing I like is Sam Rowe up forward. He presents and is stronger than a lot of defenders unlike Jones. Hopefully Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay are going to be reasonable. I doubt McKay can play this year, he'll need to do well in VFL firstly.

Glad to hear it is only 6-8 weeks. I think we all feared the worst when it happened.
