Portugal are looking to bounce back from their surprise draw with Iceland, doing battle with Austria who are battling for a round of 16 spot of their own. Follow all the live highlights and action on The Roar from 5am (AEST).
Portugal had a shaky start to their Euro campaign, survived a few late scares against Iceland to escape with a draw, leaving their hopes for a round of 16 berth hitting a speed bump.
Star player Christiano Ronaldo will be lining up for his 128th international this morning, breaking the Portuguese record for most caps, surpassing legend Luis Figo.
Austria similarly could have asked for a better start to their second appearance at the Euros, letting in 2 goals to zip against the lower-ranked Hungary, in a game they were very much expected to win.
“We have to play differently to how we did in the defeat by Hungary,” said Austria coach Marcel Koller, “we need to be more clinical with our chances, play more calmly and be more compact defensively.
“It’s the little things that decide games at this level, and you have to do these little things better than your opponents.”
Despite the unfavourable result against Iceland, Portugal coach Fernando Santos was quick to move on, keeping his squad focused on the task at hand.
“It’s a different game. I have confidence in all my players. We have the determination and ability to get the result we want.”
Interestingly, Portugal have been a bit of a bunny for Austria, having lost eight of their last ten games against them on the international stage.
Prediction
Both sides are looking to bounce back from disappointment and should put their best foot forward. With chances to advance at a minimum, another poor result could spell the end of the tournament for either team.
It should be a tight one with the number 10 ranked Austria really taking it to the Portuguese up front.
Can’t be split, 2-2 draw

Alaba still on the park! Has offered nothing but to be fair to him most of his team mates have been not much better.

Click here for the full match report from this game Portugal had a total of 23 attempts on goal in a dominant attacking display, compared to Austria's 3. It was there severe lack of finishing and ability to capitalise on their chances that undid them in the end, with star striker Ronaldo having a particularly bad night, even missing from the penalty spot.

The draw absolutely nothing for either side in the Group standings, with a win needed to get into the Round of 16 picture. Hungary and Iceland are sitting atop the Pool now with one game to play for all four sides, leaving Portugal and Austria sitting precariously on the edge of elimination.

74' Austria with the free kick in front of goal, about 25 metres out and well within striking distance. Wouldn't this be a cruel blow if they were to score. Nope, doesn't matter because they decide against the shot with a short chip over the wall for a player running through, although whoever it was meant to be failed to actually run through Portugal - 0 Austria - 0
