Foran brothers, Eddie Hayson linked to NRL betting investigation

By The Roar / Editor

A report from the Sydney Morning Herald has revealed that both Liam and Kieran Foran have been implicated in the match-fixing scandal that has rocked the NRL this season.

While the total payout was $41,400 for the bet, it has been reported that a portion of the money landed in the TAB accounts of brothers Liam and Kieran Foran.

It was earlier reported that a punter, whom the report suspects to be Frank Farrugia, bet $18,000 on the Eels to defeat Manly by five points or more in Round 7 this year.

Farrugia has links with outlaw bikie gangs and is also close friends with the Foran brothers. Furthermore, he is also a close associate of renowned gambler Eddie Hayson, a former brothel owner who purportedly owes millions of dollars to drug dealers, footballers, jockeys and boxers.

While Manly was ahead 10-8 with 12 minutes left to play, Parramatta stormed back to win the game 22-10.

The $41,400 was split into five vouchers and then redeemed by an associate of Farrugia and the Forans, Jordan Tulk.

The money was then bet on a horse race on the Sunshine Coast, with the original winnings being more than doubled up to $95,220.

Later that evening, Liam Foran received the winning ticket and cashed it in at the Central Coast Leagues Club. He received $22,000 in cash and the rest of the money on a voucher.

He then deposited $2000 into the account of his brother Kieran, who had only just been admitted into a rehabilitation clinic in Brisbane.

Liam then drove to Canterbury League Club in Belmore with the $73,220 voucher and cashed in $10,000, once again taking the remainder on another voucher.

He then walked to the nearby Belmore TAB to change the $63,220 voucher into 10 vouchers worth $6000 each plus $3220 in cash.

The next day all 10 of the vouchers were redeemed, with three of them being cashed in by Allen Seeto, a friend of Eddie Hayson who had previously deposited money into Seeto’s TAB account.

The rest of the vouchers were redeemed by unknown people across TABs at Punchbowl, Lidcombe and the Red Lantern hotel.

Fairfax Media also reported that over the past 12 months, Hayson has used the multiple TAB accounts of his colleagues to cover his own betting activity.

Hayson also attempted to reactivate his TAB account the day before game despite being banned in early February for suspected money laundering.

The NSW Organised Crime Squad is continuing the analysis of TAB data as part of it’s investigation into the alleged match-fixing from 2015.

The latest game in question was between Parramatta and Manly in Round 7 this year.

This adds to the two other games already being investigated by the NRL, which also involve Manly. Both were last year, both at Brookvale Oval. One was the Manly-Souths clash, with Manly’s game against Parramatta in 2015 the other.

The NRL said it would continue to cooperate with authorities in regards to the allegations.

“Our position has not changed… we will take whatever action is necessary to protect our game,” an NRL spokesman said.

“Anyone convicted of match fixing can expect to be banned for life but, at this stage, no one has been charged and we should avoid jumping to conclusions.”

The fact that so many are talking about league games being fixed is very damaging for the sport. Possibly worse than the drug issue. No one likes to think of the possibility of games being rigged. But it has happened before and there is no reason to think it is not happening now. Shady characters hanging around clubs often want something in return for favours. Hayson isn't going to keep depositing money into mates accounts for nothing. Then there is the other criminal figures who hang out with players. What are they up to? The NRL have been caught out taking their eye off what's going on. Too busy focusing on trying to get the likes of Hayne and Burgess back!!?

True. If the fix was on there may of been a lot of others involved. Gambling is massive amongst players these days. Small bets are harder to detect. I've seen many games that players miss easy tackles and score easy try's. Journalists like rothfield can be bought so can players. Will be interesting to see what the investigation brings up.

Did you ever love it when you were a kid getting those pictures where you had to join the dots to see the real picture. I certainly did. For those who share the love of those puzzles i'm going to take us back in time. Because we're all grown up and don't have to have those puzzles as simple as they were i'm going to make it a little harder. And if those 100 gang members have 3 kids each they can put another 30k on with small $100 bets per child. The mind boggles. Do any of those kids have pets? More bets. Where does it stop?

The camera followed the ball so closely I think the cameraman must have been in on it and there are rumours going around that a ball-boy didnt return the ball to a Manly player quick enough.

Thats right EJ then they all put their money on a fixed horse race winning less than all the stars who deliberately fell off tackles and dropped balls demanded for doing so.

Yes Nigel but what happens if your horse loses? Or is that all fixed as well. And doing it 5 times gives you a really big chance of your horse losing. I dont see anything dodgy here at all. Just a wealthy guy betting on anything he wants to and I would love to know how many bets over ten grand were placed on Footy matches every weekend.

$41K x 5 = $205K. To pay off multiple players five times. And that's the return. Taking into account the initial outlay it's actually 23K profit x 5 = 115K. You couldn't fix a game by paying off one player - no way. So you've got 115K to pay off multiple players that earn between 200 - 800K per year to fix five footy games. The do it 5 times argument is redundant. You may as well say what if they did it a million times? You've still got to pay the players to fix each game. It's all well and good saying, then double it up on a horse but a $2 favourite is only rated to win 50% of the time. So over time you're only going to get half of the payoff from fixing the footy game back at odds of $2. So it's a break even play. That's purely objective mathematics. Putting it all on a horse works as a one off double or nothing move but it's not viable long term - there's no point. And before you start talking about the race being fixed, you don't fix horse races to have the favourite win. And certainly not the $2 favourite. But if somehow these guys are the dumbest fixers in history and did rig a race to have a $2 favourite win, they would now be paying off multiple footy players, multiple jockeys and perhaps trainers to win $90 odd grand. The risk far, far, far outweighs the payoff. It doesn't make any sense. There are far easier ways, with much less risk and more reward. I'm open minded to these accusations possibly being true. I don't have my head in the sand am certainly not naive about this. But based on this evidence so far I find it incredibly hard to believe that professional match fixers would come up with such a ham fisted, high risk, low reward system when there are so many easier ways of doing it like spot fixing.

You are missing the point if you think the big issue is the $18K bet. Eddie Hayson is banned from betting anywhere in Australia. Why? Because he has a track record of influencing outcomes of sporting events. Hayson, according to the SMH article owes 'millions of dollars to a raft of characters including drug dealers, footballers, jockeys, boxers, family, friends and a convicted murderer.' Like 'business insider trading', reliable information is the most valuable resource when it comes to betting. and selling that information is where Hayson makes his big money. A 100 member drug dealing bikie gang could get each member to make a one thousand dollar bet on various markets with different agencies, here and abroad, and not raise an eyebrow. Remember these guys have PHDs in laundering money. That the $18K was so easily tracked hints at it's inconsequential nature. My guess is that the betting agencies were more concerned about the volume of smaller but similar bets showing up in all their books.

and can I just add that I do not believe that these guys would be betting off shore to make more money. a couple of $ks proves that it would not be worth it to fiddle with a result. the multinational companies told the senate enquiry that they don't move their profits off shore and I believe them

Looking at the Eels tries in the rigged 2015 Eels/Manly game, you could easily come to the conclusion that Brett Stewart was doing his best to allow those tries to be scored...

Hi Eaglejack how are you? Wat the hell is going on? I'm die hard manly fan although this year I'm taking it all in from afar watching n trying to understand why did one have that in mind for the future of the club when toovs certainly wasn't the problem..& not all the playing group.. Anyway What I'd like to stress which its been confirmed with the latest footage in my opinion n view, particularly in this game & most of the games he's played WTF IS BRETT STEWART DOING? HONESTLY I said it that game, n most games Brett Stewart played this year WTF IS HE DOING THIS YEAR BUT IT THIS ROUND 7 GAME IM SORRY TO SAY BRETT U STAND OUT LIKE DOG'S BALLS BIG TIME. There's plenty of factors that come to light with all involved & if one really wants to see how it all would've played out it won't be to difficult to piece all the pieces with actions that have clearly demonstrated within the manly playing group jus before the split of the great team. Certainly having friends that are of that nature it wouldn't take long for he's bad influence to start playing in the minds of these players. & Eddie is wagering still gambling having a punt, stired the pot showed Glenn Stewart wats in the pot for him after the treatment n disrespect manly showed him. & its not hard to see the actions certain players have taken that totally relate to all of this..

There can't be anything in this and other rumours about strange results with the Seaeagles. The Manly Daily reporters have their thumbs firmly on the pulse at Brookie. If there were any shenanigans going on they would have fearlessly exposed it. I read the Daily every day and because of that I know that everyone playing with the Seaeagles is a local hero and doing their best. But there do seem to be a lot of injured players.

Sorry, you are correct abut Eddie and Foran and the NRL creating a relationship. . What i meant to say is that you believe the NRL are trying to "create" something from nothing with this match fixing scandal. That to me sounds naive. Why would the NRL want to bring that attention to themselves with bad press involving match fixing and Foran? As i wrote earlier but was moderated there are a lot of cogs to this story involving more than 1 player in the Parrmatta and Manly game. I guess we will see in the upcoming weeks...definitely strange times.

Do it 5 times. Double up on horse races like they did. More than $200,000. Desperate people do desperate things.
