Plenty of storylines will unfold when the Gold Coast Titans – with Jarryd Hayne likely to make his club debut – face the inconsistent New Zealand Warriors. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 2pm (AEST).

All the NRL’s attention this week has been on the Gold Coast, and their sensational signing of superstar Jarryd Hayne on Wednesday.

Given he is allowed to play for the rest of season 2016 once he has been medically cleared, his presence will be a massive boost for an already in-form Titans team. If he can recapture the form he was in when he left the game, he’ll give the Titans the x-factor to contend for the premiership.

But first things first, and that is this clash against the Warriors, then making the top eight.

The Gold Coast currently sit seventh on 23 points, and need three wins from their last five games to lock down a spot in the finals.

They proved their class last weekend though against the Sharks, breaking Cronulla’s 15-game winning streak by drawing, and before that the Titans had won two straight.

They are playing an exciting brand of football, with Ashley Taylor leading in the halves.

But if the Titans are exciting, the Warriors are exhilirating on their day. While the Kiwi side are still the most inconsistent team in the competition, when they realise their potential they can put on a real show, and almost no team in the competition can stop them.

They were involved in their third golden point game in a row last weekend, against the Penrith Panthers. This time they finally won, with Shaun Johnson crossing for a try.

The tough losses in golden point do leave the Warriors in a tight situation, sitting a point behind the Titans on the ladder in eighth spot, hanging on by for and against, and also needing to win three from their last five.

In team news, apart from the question of who could be replaced by Hayne, Nathan Peats returns at hooker for the Gold Coast. The Warriors have extended their bench to include Bunty Afoa and Nathaniel Roache, with Jazz Tevaga missing out.

These sides have already met once this year, with the Warriors taking a nine-point win in Auckland during Round 17.

Prediction
It’s tough to tip the Warriors away from home, and against a Titans side who held the Sharks to a draw six days ago.

Titans by 8.

Go check your senses Eagle. I watched that game and saw one side win with lots of improvement still in them and 3 of their last 4 games at home and if I was to bet on which team from these two would make the finals it would be the Warriors Titans play Tigers (a) Knights (a) Panthers (h) Cowboys (a) Warriors play Rabbits (h) Cowboys (a) Tigers (h) and Eels (h)

Agree with you about Hayne being a potential distraction. With all the off field hype and palava over him it may result in misguided 'hero' plays if he starts believing his own press. He'll need to show discretion as he's only one spoke in the wheel.

This comment isn't relevant to the match, just the moderators. I can't see half the screen because there is a rolling video commercial that has no delete button and replays constantly. I can't even see the text I am typing right now so please excuse an errors

Warriors have somehow now developed a steely edge to their defence over the last couple of months. They have polished up on their discipline, but still commit that schoolboy error now and then. 3 of the remaining 4 at home, against Souths, Tigers & the Eels should guarantee them 7th spot. With Panthers and Tigers having the easier run home, missing the 8 is now looking likely for the Gold Coast. 3 away games, and Hayne could be the distracting factor from their great 'under-the-radar' form. Sorry Gold Coast & Jarryd Hayne fans, your finals football chance just went begging.

Match Results Jarryd Hayne was individually successful in his return to the NRL, but he couldn't stop the Gold Coast Titans suffering a ten point loss to the efficient New Zealand Warriors at CBus Super Stadium. Over 25,000 fans packed in on the Gold Coast to watch one of the game's biggest superstars but a vast majority would leave disappointed in the result - although certainly not the Titans effort which was fantastic. When you consider the Titans had a six day turnaround after a brutal 90-minute encounter against the Cronulla Sharks last week, it was quality for them to stay in the fight like they did. Hayne didn’t come into the game until the 28th minute, but he has made an immediate impact with a try saving tackle that many players wouldn’t have been able to make and then almost setting up a try with a jumping effort to field a kick. His effort and output only increased in the second half as he had a number of close calls in attack, and some brilliant moments in defence. Hayne will only improve from here and undoubtedly he could be an x-factor player moving forward for the Titans. The Warriors were very good today though. They started the game shakily and despite their forwards being on top, although not dominant as the case was for most of the game. Ben Matulino had a massive impact off the bench, and along with their starting second row combination - the experienced duo of Ryan Hoffman and Simon Mannering they managed to out-muscle the Titans. That led to Shaun Johnson playing an absolutely fantastic game, and with Tuimoala Lolohea chipping in it meant their outside backs could have their way at times, and enough of the game to take the victory. Konrad Hurrell was particularly good on the flanks, running for a huge amount of metres and looking dangerous every time he went near the ball. Hayne seemed to carry the Titans the more the game went on, and some will say he overplayed his hand, particularly when you consider the form of Ashely Taylor coming into the contest who had a particularly quiet game. The Titans forwards as mentioned were not dominated, they just weren't the better of the two sides and Greg Bird in particular had a huge game. An error in the first set looked like it was going to set the scene, but New Zealand would manage to get on the board first with a try for the flying David Fusitu’a in the corner. Shaun Johnson and Lolohea worked it to the edge, got Fusitu’a in space and he scored in a fantastic effort, diving for the corner. With a missed conversion, Ryan James would get the Titans in front, barging over next to the goal posts. Bodene Thompson would then score for the Warriors off a wonderful wrap around play involving interchange hooker Nathaniel Roache, with Thompson barrelling through a few defenders and the bunker failing to find any evidence which would overrule the try. The Gold Coast would ensure the match went to halftime all squared up though as Ashley Taylor summed up a play fantastically, threw a pass and then an offload on would see Konrad Hurrell score against his old club in the corner. The second half seemed to see the Warriors take more of a controlling aspect of the game as the influence of Hayne increased. The Titans would run on three tries before the Titans could answer, effectively ending the game as a contest with Hayne and Taylor, the men playing as halves throughout the back end of the game each making crucial mistakes. Simon Mannering would be the first to score in the second half with a barge over effort, before Solomone Kata would score a double. Kata's first try came from a Hayne pass out the back that was intercepted by Fusitu'a, who would nearly run the length of the field. With the Titans defence in pieces it was easy for Kata to cross off a Johnson pass. From there, Taylor would make a similar mistake and Kata ran the length of the field, putting a massive fend on Anthony Don. The Titans would score what proved to be a consolationtry try through Don, but it was all too little too late. In the end then, the Warriors move into seventh and will be feeling confident about their chances of making the top eight with three of their final four games at home. Final Score Gold Coast Titans 14 New Zealand Warriors 24

The warriors just came off three weeks in a row of golden point and then traveled to gold coast with no excuses of fatigue.

Still think there isnt enough quality amongst the titans forwards. They got beaten up easily today.

Fair enough Stu. I just got more of a sense that the Titans could build towards something special. They looked a little disorganised with a big personality like Hayne there for the first time. And also weary from their Monday night epic. But a game or two more with the players together they'll improve. I see plenty of upside from this Titans outfit

Except maybe the Sharks who, you know, Only just recorded their first loss Since round 3. Unless you think consistently inconsistent is a real thing in which case I'd agree.

No, but if i was to choose between the Titans and Warriors to put money on it would have to be the Warriors. For a team bagged for their inconsistency and effort there isnt a team who has been more consistent in the last 3 months.

Are you putting money on them? But thanks for a new perspective. Have never seen someone ignore losses in extra time before.

Good game of footy. Warriors deserved their win . I thought Hayne overplayed his hand a little but gee the guy is all class . Some of his touches were sublime and he hasn't forgotten how to tackle. Both the Sharks and Titans were suffering for that gruelling game last week. They will both bounce back quickly.

As a neutral I'd be far more excited if I was a Titans supporter than a Warriors one after that game. Despite the loss. Both could potentially play finals footy. Only one has the potential to make an impact.
