DIY Player Ratings: Wallabies vs All Blacks Bledisloe Cup game 2

By The Roar / Editor

Another Test match against the All Blacks, and another Bledisloe Cup lost for the Australians, unfortunately. Last night’s 9-29 defeat in Wellington maybe wasn’t quite the debacle that some of the Wallabies’ efforts have been this year, but it didn’t give the nation a lot to smile about either.

More of the wash-up from Bledisloe 2:
» Match report
» LORD: Sack Cheika? No way
» Seven talking points
» What changes should the Wallabies make?
» WATCH: Highlights from the match

As the dust settles, it’s time to rate the players! And for that task, we are turning to you, our discerning Roarers, to give us your view.

Was Quade Cooper’s return to the side a success, a failure, or something in between? How about Bernard Foley’s performance at inside centre? And how did you see the debut off the bench of Reece Hodge? This is the place to let us know what you think.

If you’ve not done our DIY player ratings before, it’s a simple enough process. Hit up the form below and rate each player from 1 to 10 based on their performance last night. We’ll keep track of the results and publish our findings.

You’re free to rate players as you like with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest, but if you’re after a bit more detail than that, we leave you in the capable hands of The Roar‘s editor Patrick Effeney who put this guide together last year.

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a squad of such depth.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good
7. Pretty good, actually
8. Very good
9. Excellent
10. Might as well have been John Eales

The kiwis have a lot of islanders playing in their super rugby teams ...... how about we have a combined pacific island team? we have one from Japan.... i have heard that NZ are against this probably because its there juniors and they like to have the first pick of the emerging talent from Fiji/Tonga and Samoa. NZ offer a lot of scholarships to the good younger players as well, we could start doing the same? Lets face it the islanders were standouts this year look at the Crusaders wingers both Fijian and they were best on field most weeks!

None of those guys publicly had a crack at the coach. I don't care what justification you put on it. That would go down like a lead balloon in NZ. Besides which he is only an average player at best when talking about available AB first fives, so they wouldn't give him a look in when combining it with past behaviours. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve a chance but like Zac, he wouldn't see the inside of a black jersey even if he were interested. I think he likes the yellow one :-)

You may want to believe that, but it does not at all align with players like Zack Guildford, Sione Luiaki, Ma'a Nonu, Julian Savea and Ali WIlliams who represented the All Blacks on multiple occasions.

Quade doesn't need Foley .Give QC the proper AMMO and he will unleash the backs That is if his powder puff forwards can get him some front foot ball. Hodge 12 ( kicker) Kerevi 13

Agree with you mania but I wouldn't say that about Coleman and Kepu. They're obviously playing to instruction. Hopefully Coleman will learn to leave the late shoulder charges to Skelton and just play rugby. I'd like to see him picked again. Same with Arnold, when he recovers from injury.

Foley played as well as Pocock? You might want to reconsider that one.

agree PH. annoys me that people complain that pocock isn't versatile enough or that folau doesn't get the ball enough. PEOPLE!! pocock and folau aren't the problem!! look at the dead wood and weed them out. don't ask folau and pocock to do more, they're already giving everything. genia, wow talk about class. injured 8-9 months and comes back as if he's been playing all year. cooper played really well I thought, not good enough yet but on his way to regaining his glory. fardy - whats cheika's problem with fardy? never should've been subbed off. I've studied fardy over the past couple of seasons and I'm really impressed with his work rate. just like to say that the niggle back fired. aus should've been above that but lowered themselves to the gutter and then found they were the only ones down there as the ABs were busy playing high level rugby. coleman and kepu are grubs.

How was Kerevi a five? I game him a one. In defence he threw his wingers under the bus forcing them to defend against two v ones.

Yeah, no question having a fifth team is why the Australian captain can't throw a decent line-out, gets up the nose of all the refs and why the game plan calls for stupid penalties and kicking possession away in favour of defending...

Cooper wouldn't have got into the All Blacks under the No-dheads" policy.

Poyns You can call it 7 or 8, he is far from the best in the world at either. Yes he is good in tight but that is it. What is this desperate to need so many posters on here have to be able to point at a player and say "best in the world"?

My opinion is what needs yo be dropped is one Aussie Super franchise. Both yours and SA's talent is being dispersed too much and teams have to select players who are not ready, or up to Super rugby. Surely all agree that to be of international standard you must be of Super standard. The true strength of NZ Rugby has never really been the All Blacks, it is the next tier down that raises the bar in terms of performance. Before Super Rugby we had the NPC becoming ITM Cup etc. Same with SA and the Curry Cup. SA shows that if you dilute your talent too far with too many Super Franchises it confirms what is happening in Aussie. NZ knows 5 Super teams is the limit for them. Consolidation, not expansion is the way forward. Players have to play at at a standard week in and out that makes playing internationals not too high a bar to perform. That is the problem for Australian Union, along with good coaching and development pathways.

In 2003 we were thrashed by the All Blacks in Sydney yet later that year beat them to make the RWC final. In 1998 we put 70 points on an English touring side - several key position players were retained by England and went on the win the 2003 RWC. Reactionary "sack em all" comments are expected but not accurate. I agree whole heartedly with the sentiment to blood some younger players but at the same time skilled and experienced players can't be cast by the wayside. Cheika is still an inexperienced international coach - he is obviously a master motivator but has been exposed tactically. I think he needs better help.

I do agree with a reduced super completion in Australia down to Three teams , hopefully getting the best of the best out of Three rather than Five . We need possibly something similar to NRL , an ARU state of origin series , to get the best out of the best . Finally sadly , we have to have a serous look at coaching , if the coaching is consider to be going well , then the players it appears are simply not listening. At the moment the Aussies look to be playing as individuals and not as a Team. A Team is a Union the stronger the team the stronger the Union. Come on Ausies you know, We Can Be Heroes Just For One Day .

1 Sio 4 2 Moore 3 3 Kepu 4 4 Douglas 6 5 Coleman 5 (yellow card) 6 Fardy 5 7 Hooper 5 8 Pocock 5 9 Genia 7 10 Cooper 6 11 DHP 4 12 Foley 6 13 Kerevi 5 14 AAC N/A 15 Folau 7 16 TPN 5 17 Slipper 6 18 Al N/A 19 Skelton 4 20 Mumm 6 21 Phipps N/A 22 Hodge 6 23 Kuridrani N/A N/A = Not enough to judge on imo. Apart from the defence being slightly better and the Aus forwards getting stuck in at times, I thought Aus were again poor. Moore should be dropped. His play and his captaincy are getting worse. Refs dont want to talk to him, his general play and his SP is terrible. Imo he is damaging the teams chances a great deal and has to go.
