Bulldogs likely to receive fine for cap breach

By News / Wire

The NRL is awaiting a final audit from Canterbury officials before handing a likely fine for a salary cap breach for the 2016 season.

The Bulldogs on Wednesday confirmed that the club had immediately informed League Central of a minor breach in their cap spend last season.

The club told the governing body that it was “inadvertent” and “not deliberate”, and by self-reporting are only expected to cop a fine equivalent to the breach.

It is believed the Bulldogs spent up to $160,000 over the cap, however the NRL has yet to decide on a suitable penalty and are waiting on the club for final figures.

“We are awaiting the final Bulldogs audit for the year to determine the extent of the breach,” an NRL spokersperson told AAP on Thursday.

Bulldogs CEO Raelene Castle said the club was quick to ensure the NRL was notified as soon as the overspend on their 2016 was identified.

“The Bulldogs hold the salary cap in the highest of regards and once we identified a potential breach position that we could not rectify for the 2016 season, we reported this to the NRL,” she said.

“The cap position will not be finalised until the NRL have completed their salary cap audit process across all 16 NRL clubs.”

The developments come in a season where Parramatta were docked 12 competition points, fined $1 million and stripped of its Auckland Nines title for being $570,000 over the cap in 2016.

Their entire board, football manager and CEO were also eventually dismissed, and the leagues club is currently under police investigation for financial fraud.

Rugby league didn't start in 2004 though. So you have them at 5th best but you say they're not one of the most successful sides? Since I was born the Bulldogs have won about four minor premierships, contested semi finals more often than not, played in 13 grand finals and won 6 premierships. I think most supporters (with half a brain) would be stoked with that return and would definitely call it successful. I've gone into most seasons with a reasonable expectation that the dogs will be a genuine contender. And when they have a downturn - like all clubs do - it lasts for a season or two not a decade or two. But do you know what? You can't even argue. You'll never understand what it's like to be a supporter of a club. To have a single passion and focus. To ride the highs and lows because youve supported this team since you were six years old. You follow six teams and can jump around to whichever is the most successful at the time. Like a child.

Most successful since when 1985??? Come Barry, you guys havent won since 2004 and you yourself are said that the club in moving in a direction that is not best suited for the future. Here is your list of so called success since 2004. 2005 placed 12th out of 15 2006 placed 2nd out of 15 finals berth 2007 placed 6 out of 16 finals berth 2008 wooden spoon dead last 2009 placed 2nd out of 16 finals berth 2010 placed 13th out of 16 2011 placed 9th out of 16 2012 Minor premiership and runners up 2013 placed 3rd out of 16 2014 placed seventh and runners up 2015 placed fifth 2016 placed seventh SO that is seven finals berth in twelve years, one wooden spoon, one minor premiership and two runners up. Not bad but here are four teams alone that are better Roosters One preimership, three minor premierships (in a row) two runnners up and one wooden spoon Broncos One premierships, zero wooden spoons and only two years not in the finals Manly Two preimerships, two runners up, zero wooden spoons Melbourne One preimership, two runners up, two minor preimerships and thats not counting the one they were stripped of and one wooden spoon So they are four teams alone the are have been more successfull since 2004. So will you now stop with the fact the bulldogs are one of the most successful teams in the comp because cleary they are not and before you even think of it they arent even the most successful in Sydney.

On my bucket list. To have a beer with The Barry and BigJ... and Muzz. I am bemused that clubs do not keep a 'Salary Cap Control Diary' in which all matters pertaining to contractual obligations are recorded with a current balance presented to prevent overrun. An IT whiz could design a programme to cover every facet of player contracts with a red zone to warn when the cap is near the limit.

So we have a 2002 cap breach for which they were punished. Allegations which were investigated by police and not one single charge laid in 2004. Then we fast forward to 2015 where a couple of d-heads were throwing plastic bottles. Two players got suspended for foul play. These are grounds for kicking one of the most successful, well supported clubs in Sydney out of the comp? It's the dumbest idea I've ever heard. Part of your problem is that the only way you define success is by premiership wins. Sure that's the end game but there are other markers. Attendance, members, sponsors, innovation, semi final appearances, grand final appearances. But all you are capable of processing is that they haven't won a premiership since 2004. Eels haven't won since 1986. Let's kick them out. Panthers haven't won since 2003. Gone. Knights 2001. Raiders 94. Warriors, Titans never. Tigers 2005, Broncos 2006. Gone, gone, gone, gone by your dim witted rationale. You really are a dullard.

Shred of evidence why the dogs should be kicked out, OK 2002 salary breaches, as a result loss all points for that year and the following. Feb 2004 rape scandal, allegations of rape of two women in seperate incidents involving up to six players. 2015 good Friday fans throwing bottles and missiles at refs after that game, James graham biting and ear plus other players suspensions for face kicking Corey Parker, no other club carries on with that sort of crap. Barry you like other fans need to realise that the it's not 1985 anymore and sadly for you and the club thier glory are long gone. You are in an era of depleting talent and unacceptable behaviour both on and off the field that is bringing your club to its knees and you all turn a blind eye to it saying the club is the most successful around. Yes stats show the club is successful but over the last decade the club is falling flat on its backside with all people involved unwilling to see the big fall is coming

...and just so we're clear, you don't need to repeat yourself and write in caps. People don't (constantly) disagree with you because they don't understand, it's because your understanding of even the most basic concepts is childish. You have severely limited insight into any issues confronting the game, or any game, or life, or the world in general. You argue with people when it's obvious you can't grasp the point they're trying to make. Your arguments are flawed and often contradict what you've written earlier. Your predicates are puerile. You make bombastic statements without a shred of evidence to support them. You don't fact check anything you write. You seem incapable of presenting anything resembling a fact. You're illogical and irrational, biased and bigoted. Your spelling, grammar, vocabulary and syntax is demonstrably worse than my six year old. But feel free to type in caps if you think it'll help.

Unfortunately I do read what you type...when it's legible. It's like seeing a fat, homeless person run naked down George St. I know I shouldn't look and I'm not going to enjoy it but I can't help having a peek. Why would you kick the dogs out other than your intense dislike? They're one of the wealthier Sydney clubs and are regularly in the top few for memberships, crowds and TV ratings. They attract supporters to the code from non traditional demographics. They've been in the top few clubs over the past 40 years in terms of on field results. Just come up with one objective, logical reason why kicking the Bulldogs out of the comp would be good for the game.

It's got nothing to do with teams not caring about the cap, it just might be thatmanaging the cap is more difficult than you imagine.

Do you actually read what i type or just what you want to read?? I said if the NRL is to cull any Sydney team, Bulldogs should be the first to go, but it wont happen. I say again IF THAT'S IF THE NRL IS TO CULL ANY SYDNEY TEAM BULLDOGS SHOULD GO FIRST, BUT IT WONT HAPPEN. i NEVER SAID TO KICK THEM OUT BUT IF IT COMES DOWN TO A SYDNEY TEAM BEING CULLED FOR THE GOOD OF THE GAME BULLDOGS SHOULD BE HIGH ON THE LIST. BUT AGAIN I SAY IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN.!!! Unfortunatley for me and every other Bulldogs hater ( and there are alot out there) the Bulldogs have too much security arouund the club. The glory days of the eighthies keeps them alive but sooner or later that will frizzle away and the club will have no one to save them anymore.
