Your club's transfer performance rating: Part 2

By Patrick Sills / Roar Guru

There may be precious little action on the park, but there’s plenty going on off it ahead of next season. Here is the second part looking at your club’s transfer performance rating.

Here is the link to Part 1.

Gold Coast Titans

Best signing: Kevin Proctor (Melbourne Storm)
New Zealand representative second-rower Kevin Proctor will head to the Gold Coast for the 2017 season. The damaging, hard-running forward will be an integral part of the Titans side.

Biggest loss: Greg Bird (Catalans Dragons)
Bird has been one of the Titans best forwards during his time at the club. Formerly a NSW and Australian representative, he will leave a hole to fill.

Possible star signing: Dan Sarginson (Wigan Warriors)
Talented Englishman Dan Sarginson is following the footsteps players like Sam Tomkins and Zac Hardaker by following his dream to play in the NRL. Hopefully he can take his opportunity and shine in the Titans backline.

Key re-signing: Ashley Taylor (2018)
The 2016 rookie of the season has committed the Gold Coast Titans. A future star no doubt, Taylor will be looking to improve on his stellar 2016.

Transfer performance rating: 8

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles

Best signing: Blake Green (Melbourne Storm)
After the retirement of Jamie Lyon, and the failure of Dylan Walker in the halves, the Sea Eagles required a specialist in the 6 jersey. They have got just that, as underrated star Blake Green moves to the Northern Beaches.

Biggest loss: Siosaia Vave (Parramatta Eels)
Vave was finding good form during the 2016 season. His size and mobility was well utilised off the Manly bench, and he is sure to show them what they let go of next season.

Possible star signing: Brian Kelly (Gold Coast Titans)
The young centre showed everyone what he can do with a solid season in the under-20s in 2016. Kelly may not play first grade next year, but he’s a future star.

Key re-signing: Trbojevic brothers (2020)
The next big things at Brookvale, Jake and Tom Trbojevic have inked new deals with the club, and will be looking to push for an origin spot each in 2017.

Transfer performance rating: 7

Melbourne Storm

Best signing: Josh Addo-Carr (Wests Tigers)
One of the quickest men in rugby league will be wearing purple next season. He has a long way to go in his career, but underneath Craig Bellamy at Melbourne, he could be anything.

Biggest loss: Kevin Proctor (Gold Coast Titans)
A massive loss for the Storm, Proctor has been a forward leader for the club throughout his career. He leaves Tohu Harris and most likely Kenny Bromwich in the second row positions.

Possible star signing: Jahrome Hughes (North Queensland Cowboys)
A 22 year old with only two NRL games to his name, Hughes will be looking to add a few more to his tally in Melbourne. No doubt an up and comer, it will be interesting to see his progress in 2017.

Key re-signing: Cameron Munster (2019)
Billy Slater’s predecessor will remain at the club for a while longer, as he waits for the Storm fullback jumper to become his permanently.

Transfer performance rating: 4

New Zealand Warriors

Best signing: Kieran Foran (Parramatta Eels)
Warriors fans have plenty to be excited about when New Zealand international Foran suits up for their club next year. His impact should get the Warriors on track for finals football in 2017.

Biggest loss: Konrad Hurrell (Gold Coast Titans)
Blake Ayshford got a nice chunk of first grade this season but it allowed the exit of destructive center Konrad Hurrell. He’s already showed what he can do at the Titans and the Warriors will rue letting him go.

Possible star signing: Kieran Foran (Parramatta Eels)
While Foran is a quality player, he is still no a shoe in to be a superstar. If he can stay on the pitch and keep his head straight expect him to be a star signing.

Key re-signing: Shaun Johnson (2019)
Foran’s halves partner has also signed a new deal with the club. Johnson will be out for his best year yet in the NRL next season, so watch this space.

Transfer performance rating: 6

but he didn't fit well into Sheen's structure, nor Potters nor Taylors - imo I think he is living off his name only, has never shown anything to live up to his billing. Apart from Green, all those other manly recruits are full of "potential" and having been promising good things for years but have yet to deliver. Are they likely to change their spots under a rookie coach and tired old selector? Probably not.... And the recruitment of Uate - wtf was Bozo thinking.

Lane went to Manly Henry retired Sao is mud Tevaga is a hooker Others are good, but they need quality added to the middle now, not more potential.

I'm really confused by this comment. First of all, they have Hoffman & Mannering (and Thompson, whose presence alongside the former two unbalances their pack), they don't need a Kevin Proctor. They need a dominant middle forward in his prime to complement Matulino/Lillyman/Vete/Lisone - a Jason Taumalolo or Martin Taupau (playing in the middle, not like dopey Barrett had him doing this year) type. Secondly, they have loads of young guys who made their debuts over the past 2 seasons and have been building up game time. Sam Lisone, Albert Vete, Toafofoa Sipley, Bunty Afoa are the obvious ones (and *shudder* Charlie Gubb too), plus more still waiting for a shot - Ogden & Tuli immediately jump to mind.

I liked what I saw from him at hooker that one time he played there, had a good burst of speed from dummy half and his surges had a point to them -- something Issac Luke used to be great at but forgot how to do over the 2014-15 off season.

Justin Olam will give Ado-Carr good competition for that vacant wing spot. He is almost just as fast, defensively strong and is not afraid to cart the ball up.

He has a structure - it involves dragging the left winger in to the hooking role for 20 minutes per game removing one side of your attack.

I agree the jury is still out, Green was solid defensively for the storm which is always the most important thing for Bellamy. Other than that he didn't really set the world on fire in his time at the club. A lot of Storm fans would be sad to see him move on because he worked well next to Cronk (after widdop we had garbage 5/8s), but the real test will be when he doesn't get the delivery and organisation that Smith and Cronk usually give the guys around them.

Didnt fit under JT structure? JT has no structure apart from blaming his players.

If he learns how to tackle and stop dropping the ball.

Careful who you say Mann isn't a fullback to...you could drown in salty tears. But yeah, he was pretty handy on the wing. Injuries aside Aitken and Milne will be the Dragons centres getting starved of quality ball this year.

I really liked the look of Cameron Cullen the few times I saw him play. Composed, steers the team around well, good running game, good kicking game. I'd love to see him get an extended run in first grade but unlikely with DCE and Green ahead of him.

Not sure where you looked up the Warriors forward pack but Sao, Lisone, Lane, Shipley,Henry, Vete, Gubb, Gavat, Tavga all seem pretty young to me. Also their is a lot of youngsters in the backline also. The warriors are a very young side compared to a lot of others

I noticed that as well and hope he realises it as a the 2nd shot he needed. @glen, im with you on Green and time will tell, however Manly have 3 other options for 5/8 and green is a stop gap atm for either cullen or T Wright for if or when they fire. Korisau goes alright as well.

I have a feeling Curtis Sironen will realise his potential at Manly under a different coach and system. Was progressing well under Potter but didn't fit with JT structure.

Hope Proctor and Green go well in their new clubs. I think Ado-Carr has potential especially speedwise but he will have good competition for the outside backs spot. Curtis Scott, Olam, Tatupu and Hawkins all have a shot. Koroibete didn't just have speed, he also was great defensively and took the hard carries and could take a hammering and still get up and go. I think whoever of those works the hardest and plays the toughest will get the gig. The Nines will be a great platform to see who had the best off season.
