WATCH Roar Live: We discuss our Australians and UnAustralians of the year

By Riordan Lee / Editor

This week on Roar LIVE, we’re hosting our very own Australia Day ceremony, and we want to know who you think should be the winners.

Today Malcolm Turnbull will be presenting a very deserving legend with this year’s Australian Of The Year gong, so we thought it was only fitting to host our own awards.

The categories are as follows:

Australian Of The Year: Which Aussie sportsperson do you think has embodied the true nature of Australia’s sporting culture? Who played with the most mongrel, who was the most obnoxious, who abused the opposition most ferociously – the criteria is in your hands!

UnAustralian Of The Year: On the flip side of that, who do you think turned their back on Australia’s sporting culture (not that it’s necessarily a bad thing…)?

Adopt An Aussie: With Australia Day comes a new batch of Australian citizens – which international sportsperson would you like to see given an Aussie passport? It could be a purely tactical reason (i.e. Joe Root so we can reclaim the Ashes) or someone you just think is a closet Australian and would be a perfect fit in our sporting landscape.

Get your answers and explanations in the comments and we’ll get to them at 1pm today on Roar Live.

Roar Live will be streamed today on The Roar’s Facebook page and also on the site at 1:00pm (check the homepage). It will also be available as a podcast on Soundcloud and iTunes.

I don't think you could go past David Alcott for the Australian sports person. And a tie between Bernard tomic and nick kyrios as unaustralian.

Maybe not by his captain, who said his rival SOK is one of our most important players for the Indian tour.

Australian Of The Year: Eddie Jones for bringing England back from the brink and smashing the Wallabies 4-nil. UnAustralian Of The Year: Eddie Jones for bringing England back from the brink and smashing the Wallabies 4-nil. Adopt Nemani Nadolo, because he pretty much is a Queenslander, has an Aussie accent, and is one of the best wingers in international rugby at the moment playing for Fiji. Slipped through out fingers.

Australian of the year: Chloe Esposito - how can you go past her fighting effort at the Olympics? Amazing performance - Daivd Warner would be my no.2 - well and truly proven the doubters wrong now. Of course, Andrew Bogut is up there for his Twitter banter. UnAustralian of the year: The Australian Cricket selectors? But on a more serious note, let's run with Wayne Bennett for going to coach England. Adopt: Can we please change Esteban Chavez nationality to Australian?

Nick Kyrgios is the easy answer to all three - so, well played Nick - leave the money on the fridge! Aussie of the year: pours drinks for everyone and you guys love him - Mickey Edwards. UnAussie of the year: James Hird, I dunno what to make of him now, but he's changed. Adopt: Virat Kohli, this guy wouldn't have been out of place in Chappelli's XI back in the 70s. Clobbered the Aussie's in Oz and is ready to ignite at home. Malcolm T could do no worse than use lamingtons and a case of Redback to lure him 'home'.

There's no proof in the last few years that anyone who wins Australian OF the year is a legend , they are just political appointments. And for that reason alone I would be putting my money on the NSW nominee .

Purely cricket based - Australian of the year - Glenn Maxwell - honest in interviews off the field and a competitive beast on it. UnAustralian of the year - tie between Darren Lehmann (should have quit at the same time as Rod Marsh) and anyone still comparing Josh Hazlewood to Glenn McGrath (he's not even close and never will be) Adopt an Aussie - Kevin Pietersen - unbelievable knowledge of the modern game and would be a fantastic addition as a coach or head selector
