Indigenous All-Stars vs World All-Stars start time: NRL All-Stars match venue, date, TV guide, squads

By The Roar / Editor

The NRL All-Stars match is upon us as the pre-season gathers momentum, the start of the regular season just weeks away. The Indigenous All-Stars are set to square off with the World All-Stars at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday, February 10 at 8pm (AEDT).

The match, which has been previously held on the Gold Coast and Brisbane in Queensland makes the trek south this year, to the rugby league heartland of Newcastle.

Last year, the world team, who were formerly known as the NRL All-Stars in the early days of the event took a narrow win last year, getting up 12-8.

Some of the games biggest stars will turn out for the 2017 edition, with Johnathan Thurston and Greg Inglis leading the Indigenous team’s charge.

How to watch the match

The exclusive rights to the NRL All-Stars game belong to the Nine Network. This means the match will be broadcast on free-to-air TV.

Their coverage will begin at 7:30pm (AEDT) – half an hour before kick-off and conclude at 10pm (AEDT), or when the game ends.

The only way to legally stream the NRL All-Stars match is through the NRL Digital Pass. The official streaming app of the NRL allows you to watch every game of the Regular season, as well as the finals, State of Origin, World Club Series and NRL All-Stars online, on any device you may own.

The app will set you back a price of $89.99 for the whole year or $2.99 per week. Both of these options come with a one-week free trial if you have never used the app before though.

I thought the World all stars were pathetic unless this game has better players available it should be replaced by what Terrence said with a Maori/pacific team all stars. I also would be happier if the Indigenous team was picked solely from truly Indigenous players and not players with only a smidion of Indigenous in them, There were players in the team who were whiter than I am and also at least one kiwi. I had lost interest before half time.

Shane, you are right, the recorded crowd was 20k, and it is hot, but their was a slight breeze from the south.. The Indigenous All Stars won well, and with such brilliant talent across the park, an expected outcome. That team could potentially beat any team put in front of them, tonight they did, the old saying of beat the team in front of you rings true, don''t worry about those not facing you who could have, just go out there and win. Which they did. Easily. Which brings me to my (our) next point. Why can't we have a fair dinkim world team? Yes the NRL coaches don't like the game in a very crowded schedule, but why can't we watch a real contest to celebrate and reflect on the brilliant and many indigenous players who have played. Beetson, Yeo, Corowa, Ferguson. Daley, Meninga, O'Grady, Backo, Renouf, et. al. I could go on forever. Let's acknowledge the great achievements in sport , not only league, that indigenous sportspeople have bought to us all. Those legends would won't a proper game, best v best. They want the passion of the Indigenous passion somewhat equaled if possible, to make a contest, If the world all stars can't put up the best players available, how about the indigenous all stars v the maori/pacific islander all stars. Full house, 5 millions eyes on the screen on free to air TV. Then the world dodgers might get more interested. Congrats to the indigenous all stars on a great win tonight.

Can you mirror it on an iPad and a smart tv? Or is it blocked to do that like Foxtel Go?

Thanks Craigo, wasn't there earlier when I looked for it yesterday. Perhaps some-one whispered into the ears of the AFL- pro programmers in Melbourne, no point in not showing it when they have spent a lot of money on the rights.

So it's less than 5 hours til the gates open, and there are still heaps of empty seats. While I'm sure the heat and the lacklustre "world" line-up have contributed, Greg Inglis and Johnathon Thurston are big enough names to draw a sell-out crowd in Brisbane. Perhaps it was just a scheduling clash (the World Rugby 10s are on at Suncorp this weekend) but given QLD has the highest average crowds at both club and representative games, you'd think this would be better supported in a different location. I would love to have attended the game, as would my kids...

You are totally correct David, this is a pathetic world all stars team. I do not see how they can call it a world all stars team as they have only picked NRL players. They should leave it as the deadbeats as not many can be called all stars. Indigenous all stars should win by 30 plus. Meninga you should be ashamed to be the selector of this team.

The indigenous team would wipe the floor with the best teams that NZ and England could provide. The World All-Stars (really the NRL All-Stars) has a decent enough pack, but they're completely outclassed throughout the halves and backline.

Like the look of the Indigenous team. Not sold on the All Stars team. Where are Cronk, Smith, Sam Burgess etc? The Indigenous boys could rack up a cricket score.

@ Edward. I just checked the TV guides online www.yourtv.com.au It's live on 9s main channel in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Darwin. It's live on GEM in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and Hobart. Pretty good exposure

I like the concept, it must be a real buzz for the indigenous players and supporters, but your right David, it isn't a great "world all star team", which is disappointing. I could basically pick a better player for each player selected for the "'world'' team. The game is not overly supported by the NRL coaches, fair enough, but it is suss that all the injuries and operation recovery changes the world side goes through from when it is originally chosen to when they head into camp.

Are they having a laugh with that world all star team? Serious lack of big names in it. Seems like this game is going the way of the 9s.

No sign of it in the TV guides in the other states. It will probably magically appear on one of Nine's secondary channels late at night if at all.

I love this concept but I know a lot of people whinge about it like what a waste of time or money but it's not about that, it's about seeing great players playing for pride. Looking forward in watching it. Missed it last year.
