Reds win on the road 3-2

By Isaac Nowroozi / Roar Guru

Adelaide United have come away with a win on the road over the Central Coast Mariners, 3-2.

Both teams started off strong, both creating chances as they try to get away from the wooden spoon.

Central Coast started to get control of the game with 20 minutes left in the first half, with Adelaide failing to string together a dangerous attack.

The Mariners would have to wait until the end of the first half to get the goal, as Kwabena Appiah-Kubi gets the ball of Strom Roux’s cross and puts it into the net.

The second half told a very different tale, as Adelaide came out with a new lease on life.

Shorty into the second 45, Adelaide got one back, as Papa Diawara got his name on the scoresheet after a defensive mistake.

Five minutes later, the Reds took the lead, as Dylan McGowan’s header off the corner found the top corner.

It proved to be a big 10 minutes for Adelaide United, and for Diawara, who got a third just five minutes after through another corner.

Central Coast seemed to be done and dusted, playing for the full-time whistle, however a handball in the box from Jae-sung Kim in the 90th minute gifted the Mariners a penalty.

Roy O’Donovan sent the goalkeeper the wrong way as the game was set for a grandstand finish.

The Mariners pressed and went on an all-out attack, however Adelaide were able to survive and get all three points to get out of last place on the table.

Final score

Central Coast Mariners 2
Adelaide United 3

Wouldn't even be a pimple on a cows back side compared to how much Taxpayers money the AFL has been given. Even Jeff Kennet (as reported by ABC) was surprised how much funding that Andrew Demetriou had been given by the Govt just for upgrading the AFL grounds to the tune of "hundreds of millions of dollars" during his 10yr tenure. But I guess the question should be asked of you seeing as you're the one gatecrashing the Football tab as to , How much does the Taxpayer couch up for the AFL National Team to play overseas? Why don't you come back with a factual figure on that one, in your own time stud.

Then I read yesterday the Qld govt (rather the taxpayers) put on free public transport for anyone wanting to go there to a cost of $400,000. So, the AFL can afford to put $300million plus into a stadium (not including renovations) down in Melbourne but yet cant stump up the cash to look after their fans regards transport to a different ground?

Basically taxpayers paid $27 for every person that attended that game. It's being called "the game of shame" given the cost cutting taking place in schools and hospitals in Brisbane. But hey, you hype something up and this is what happens ...

Of more concern for the AFL was that the Women's competition pulled a bigger crowd (allegedly) than the opening match of the Men's AFL Competition which was a Queensland Derby. So, basically, AFL fans who travelled all the way to the Gold Coast Stadium for the women's match & entered for free decided "I don't want to watch 2 of the best AFL teams in the world playing a Derby Match. I want to go home". Additionally, the high quality, best athletes in Australia, playing the best AFL competition in the world and one of the world's great Derbies - the Q Clash in the opening round - attracted fewer fans in Queensland than the low quality, crap ALeague match where one team had to play untried teenagers because their best senior players were missing due to international commitments. Queensland AFL is dead. Just a matter of when the coffin is buried.

Surprised it was only 15k, strong, fit and healthy young ladies.....sleeveless shirts and big kicks, throwing complete abandon to the wind regards physical contact..... ........who cares about the odd hairy armpit or the ink coated skin, let alone the pony tails sticking to the back of their necks coated with the stickly sweet body sweat and the musky smell of a cheap sports perfume filling the air..... .........and to think that they actually wore boot with studs as well is just way too much for an old fella like me. 15k?........is that all?

A draw between the Nix and the Jets would sey the race for spoon up perfectly. Adelaide are the only team that does not face the smug smurfs

You comparing the top 2 in a GF match to the bottom 2 teams in a regular league match. Sad? Desperate? Needy? Lonely?

It was an entertaining game with both sides ruing some missed opportunities. Appiah seemed to spend half the time picking the pocket of Adelaide and the other half having his pocket picked. Marrone looked very good for Adelaide.
