Match preview:

The Jaguares are off to a good start in their second Super Rugby campaign but the pressure will be on to maintain their good form against an undermanned Reds team at home. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 8:40am AEDT.

Having only achieved four wins in their inaugural campaign, the Jaguares are now 3-1 to start the new season and should hold high hopes of securing their fourth win of the season against a Queensland side coming off a heavy defeat to the Lions last week.

To make matters worse for the Reds, stars Quade Cooper, George Smith and James Slipper won’t be taking the field against the Jaguares, which means that experienced professionals Stephen Moore and Karmichael Hunt will have to produce strong performances to steer Queensland to victory.

The Jaguares are building confidence after a below-par campaign last year. With a tough few weeks coming up though, in South Africa, the Jaguares really need to cash in on a good draw and secure their third straight win at home.

Ill-discipline is the only thing holding the Jaguares back this season. They invariably get a player sent to the bin in most matches, and it proved particularly costly against the Stormers several weeks back when two players were sent to the bin in the second half.

In spite of this, the Jaguares are known to punch above their weight, as they proved against the Stormers, scoring a try despite being handicapped for over ten minutes.

Effort levels are strong at the moment for the Jaguares, and the more wins they get on the board, the stronger their franchise will become.

Prediction
Like the SunWolves, the Jaguares remain a work in progress but possess the experience required to get the job done today against the Reds.

Australia’s franchises are all struggling for form, particularly away from home and if the Jaguares show up with the right attitude, they should secure another priceless win.

Jaguares by 10

cheers chook.. wasn't pretty.. mate i loathe all the strategic/management mumbo jumbo 'work in progress strategic plan' malarky.. snake oil salesmen stuff.. just get on with it.. don't justify your job by producing a 26 page powerpoint presentation.. said to rt earlier, think something is rotten in the bowels of ballymore.. too many jobs for the boys and too much navel gazing..

cheers rt.. not the most enjoyable 80 mins of rugger.. full credit though to the jags.. they had sweet truck all possession in the 2nd half and were deserved winners.. the ref wasn't the best.. but the good teams manage to circumnavigate those things.. i still think there is something fundamentally wrong in ballymore.. couple of good years around 2011 but since 96 we seem to be perpetually underperforming.. some people won't remember but the mcbain, slack, miller years all had quality players as well and we came up short, sometimes majorly... i am hoping that 2011 isn't the outlier for us and that we are not a middle/ lower of the road team..

100% about Mack Mason and Tom Banks. Crazy to let them go and keep McIntyre and I'll throw another one into the conversation, Frisby. Who is in charge of recruitment and retention?

LOL just checked on the way out the door. But the conversation on the first tee worth repeating as yet another sad snapshot of the state of Australian rugby: Golfing Partner: How'd your Reds go? Me: Well beaten by the Argies. Pretty hopeless apart from Hunt. GP: I've told you, stop following union. I've given up any interest in the Tahs this year and am better for it. See those Sea Eagles last night?

Sack Stiles. Pathetic. Should be winning with that roster.

No ludicrous yellow to Nabuli and the Jaguars don't kick the penalty for a line out where Douglas gets carded buddy!!!! Sick of refs and rubbish calls blatantly robbing us!!

Yet sadly the other really good one, Mac Mason was let go to the Tahs in favour of McIntyre. I couldn't believe it when the Reds let two of the stars of the NRC, Mason and Tom Banks walk out the door.

Disagree. I found totally the opposite, in fact your logic is flawed due to Hunts capacity to offload in traffic which explains the skill to create such a play you need to assess what’s around you and that comes through understanding awareness and timing. Hunt has played in enough teams/games to understand timing and delivery however its not the case with his team mates decisions making with ball in hand in traffic, under pressure, or creating miss matches to free up your limbs for quick and short lateral shifts.

Well that should answer a few of Cooper's critics about why we need him then shouldn't it. Whatever his fault he is still Queensland's best 10 by a country mile.

No doubt Hunt is playing out of his skin compared to years past but his support play...I have lost count of the times he has overrun the passer or forced what is then pinged as a forward pass. Butchery is not something the Reds can afford.

C/Play: You're right when you say that the Ref and his Show ponies running the touch killed the game, he actually killed the game for both sides and although the Reds were woeful at best, Referee Fraser did his level best to get them over the line. The Reds didn't deserve to win as they played rubbish, patted the opposition on the back as they zipped past them with ball in hand in most cases,~ their tackling was bad, very bad and that coupled with a heap of bad decisions made in general play affected them badly but, they were the architects of their own demise. The Jaguares' weren't that flash either but they were slightly better than the Reds and deserved to win. But the worrying thing for me is the Refereeing that has been foisted upon us all, it's beyond stupid as some of the so called ''high tackles" weren't a bit high but penalise them he and his Ponies running the touch did, and it just killed that game as a spectacle. Someone influential should take the bull by the proverbial horns and just go see the people who make up and enforce these ludicrous rules/laws and tell them to stick them where it embarrasses them most. No one can enjoy a game well played now as it's stifled by these crummy' unnecessary rules/laws regarding tackling high, they're obsessed with it and it's becoming the ruination of our game we used to enjoy! It's so bad these days and I can't watch the Mungo game so, it's pretty close to abandoning this game of rugby and watching AFL, Heaven forbid!

Tuttle was excellent I though. Delivered nice crisp accurate passes, generally good decision making, decent speed to and from breakdown (Quicker than Frisby). Would like to see him get more starting opportunities.

Let's walk back the failed Try of Keveri - Duncan - Hunt link - the problem starts with keveri IMO there's a fault with his decision making skills, he has 2 options Hunt outside Duncan inside, if he gives it early the Reds are in however he delays which sets off a chain reaction to the speed of both trailers, Duncan doesn't adjust to the speed which causes him to react by giving a surging Hunt a ball that's behind him. It's those little things that gives the Reds so much grief.

Commiserations RobC, riddler and co.... only caught up with 'live scores' but even before the game the vibes were against Reds causing an upset. Tough enough playing away yet without your top teams against the Jaga with so many with test experience, it would have been the coaching effort of the decade if the Reds got up ....

I didn't watch the game but agree with the sentiments around yellow cards. Yellow cards to me are another bad example which has entered 15s rugby from the 7s game. Yellow cards should be reserved for foul play (i.e. knocking someone's head off, not a deliberate knock on), and repeated offences by the same player, not the team. But I would never red card a player for competing for the ball - that's not cheating, it's the very spirit of rugby.

Actually the referee had a large say with ridiculous yellow cards to the Reds giving the Jaguares chance to score 2 tries. So the "only themselves to blame" commentsat the Reds is well off the mark.
