Round 7 of the AFL season is under way and tonight we see Port Adelaide Power play host to the West Coast Eagles. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog from 4.35pm AEST.

Fifth plays sixth in this battle between two teams who will want to put their claim on a top 4 spot, Port are coming off two comprehensive wins against the struggling Carlton Blues and the Brisbane Lions, while the Eagles bounced back strongly against the Dockers after a lacklustre showing against the Hawks.

West Coast’s win against the Dockers did nothing to shed the reputation of being flat track bullies at home.

The Eagles do have a good track record against the Power in Adelaide winning both of their last two matches there but Port will want to try and reverse the recent trend and take home the honors.

Despite being known more as a forward Chad Wingard played in the midfield last week and was outstanding for them but the Eagles have a much better midfield than the Lions so if Wingard stays in that role he will want to continue on from last week’s form.

The battle of the midfield will make for some great viewing and if Wingard can stand tall then he will add a bit of excitement to the game.

Josh Kennedy will again be the focal point for the Eagles and he was a star last time these sides met kicking seven goals in the Eagles win.

Port Adelaide’s backline though has shown some great form this season and will try to prevent the spearhead from getting off the leash and kicking another bag on them.

Despite the recent success in Adelaide for West Coast this year’s Port seems to have improved and they will take some beating in front of their home fans.

If West Coast are to get the win they will need their ball winners to be firing and hope that Kennedy can get a few quick goals and have their other big name forwards get on the scorers sheet as well.

It should be a great game with two teams both looking to get a sniff of the top four and cement their spot in the top end of the competition.

Port Adelaide by 7 points

West coast forward entries were all clean and on the rebound. Ports were scrambled and crowded. It was good defending and counter attack from west coast that always looked in control of the game

Shame about the scores then. Port were on track to kick 7:20. Nearly twice as many forward 50 entries through honesty and commitment and it wasn't enough. Port relied on extracting scrambled ball forward of the arc and the Eagles' reliance on polish was enough.

West coast can not be taken seriously either don't think they have lost there flat track bully tag and Carlton are not as bad as people think they are comp is going to be tight this year as long as the umpires don't screw it up need to get this holding the ball thing right

Thought Brad Sheppard would've got in the votes, really the whole eagles defence should be applauded for that effort

Considering that Port were 5:12 at one stage they might have lost by more. They were too indirect into the forward 50 and relied on being able to extract the ball from scrambled play. The Eagles kicked five goals from centre bounce clearances, despite Ryder being the best ruck on the ground and come on - 68 to 39 forward 50 entries and they still couldn't win. The Eagles defence isn't that good althoughYeo's pack mark was the best of the game

Port were really good, full of commitment, honesty and hardness!!?? Eagles were also really good in an away game, leading the whole game, they also showed commitment, honesty and hardness. But how can you say Port were the better team that lost? because they kicked too many points and let Coast win? Well the Coast kicked straighter and that was the win so therefore they were the better team!! The comp is so close and erratic, look at the upsets this weekend. its ridiculous to call teams 'flat track bullies', frontrunners and chokers etc its just a cheap shot and sjow little understanding or patience with this game/code. good win Eagles, might shut some Vic and media whingers up for awhile!!! (and Eagles without Nicnat, Lycett or Petrie) Tough Loss Port, a good side nonetheless, better luck next time!

Same can be said about the Eagles really, Both sides know how to beat up on the lesser talents, as has been mentioned a straighter kick from the Power and this game is a little more interesting though.

I agree they were well on top for most of the game. Bad starts at the start of each quarter hurt their chances and the inaccurate kicking proved costly. Sam Gray was 1 goal 3 or something to end the game if he kicked straighter himself that is a win to the Power.

Holding the ball or incorrect disposal changes from week to week in every game . to me all the the umpires aren't on the same page because umpires on the same field are umpiring the game differently you think they would have talked to each other before and during the game.

I'm not sure how anyone deduced that Port were a $1.33 chance.

Port were the better side tonight. Nothing wrong with their commitment or 'honesty' or whatever other buzz words you like using

That's the help I'm talking about. Port won every major stat fairly comfortably, just missed easy shots on goal. Didn't help that the Eagles couldn't miss if they tried, another situation that won't repeat itself much in the future.

A better side would have kicked straighter than 12.15

Questions have to be asked about the Power's commitment, honesty, and hardness. It is all well and good to knock over Carlton and Brisbane, in successive weeks. Once again Port fall short against a side in the eight. Until Port change their ways, they will continue to be viewed as front runners, and chokers. This side can't be taken seriously.
