Match preview:

The second place Sydney Roosters take on the leaders in the Melbourne Storm this Saturday night which is sure to be a heated battle despite the absence of Origin players in both sides. Join The Roar for lives scores and a blog of the match from 7:30pm AEST.

This fixture has provided a plethora of memorable and exciting matches over the years heading into this weeks encounter.

The Roosters and the Storm have been largely impressive so far this season, being the top two and leading by example for the rest of the competition. However, this weekend’s clash looks to offer something different with a host of big and usual names missing from this week’s team sheets.

The Roosters enter the clash winning four from their last five clashes this season, being one of the few teams managing to keep up with Melbourne so far this year.

Wins against the Broncos and Bulldogs in recent weeks highlight their title credentials this season and they will look to continue their strong form against an understrength Storm this weekend.

The Storm has also won four from their past five recovering well from that shock loss to the Titans to win four straight.

The Melbourne outfit has won games against title challengers Cronulla and the Cowboys proving that they are the real deal this season, as they have been in many seasons previously.

This clash comes after a tense Origin battle which will heavily affect both teams in this encounter.

The big three of Cooper Cronk, Cam Smith and Billy Slater all being out for Melbourne will be a significant issue for them to overcome, while the Roosters will only miss out with Boyd Cordner.

However, their Origin stars will have to shake off their midweek disappointment which will loom over their heads this weekend.

It’s important to note that Sydney do not have the home field advantage, with the game being held in Adelaide.

Prediction
Overall, this clash should be close but I’m going to pick the second place Roosters to edge the leaders.

Roosters by 8

He wil but not necessarily because of the field goal. I missed most of the game but I did see the end. On that last play of regular time Pearce was decisive when he ran to the line himself, drew some defenders and then offloaded. It created space on the other side of the park. Decisive was what he wasn't on Wednesday night when he got after NSW regained after the kickoff near the end. He ended up making a soft hit up. He could have been decisive and tried something and failed but at least he would have tried something.

The solo try Hughes scored for the Cowboys last year was sensational. I'm disappointed we couldn't hold onto him or Ponga but I guess Hess is pretty good.

Be interesting to see when they play again at full strength - don't know if either coach would be happy though- Be interested to see how Sharks play against Manly if all SOO players back up- Raiders losing at Home and Panthers losing to the Cows has opened up consolidation opportunities for those higher in the current 8 I suggest- Raiders what is happening to them though?? -

Fair enough. But all teams celebrate like that after a GP win. The Roosters Origin players (ex Cordner) backed up. The Storm's (ex Glasby) didn't. That actually impacts both sides quite a bit. The Roosters look tired, yet found a way to win. A guy like Pearce will take huge confidence from icing the game. Irrespective that the Storm rested a few. Celebrate now. Assess the problems tomorrow

Good that the cracks were exposed then as these can be fixed I suggest- sure Storm has 3 out but the Roosters didn't pack it up as I thought they might when 24-12 down- The Big 3 can be managed if you have the right motivation to do so - I Still think the Storm and Sharks are a cut above the rest but it goes down to on the day - who knows if someone has a red letter day game

Good win by the Roosters to come back and win it. Storm youngsters played very well but same as last week can't close out a game. They will learn from this and be better for the experience. Bellamy looked like he was going to blow a gasket! He shud blame himself for continuing to pick Young T. First try was his poor defense and tbe Roosters kept making breaks down his flank for field position and backtracking defense. Jarome Hughes was very gud in his Storm debut. Expect to see much more of him in the future.

Your right mate even though I liked it when we(Western Suburbs Magpies) smashed your team often at Lidcombe Oval back when- I don't mind the Roosters my self - sure Thirsty Masters would call them the big heads from Easts and your team the Silvertails but that Sydney Rivalry was great stuff and always good to see that Sydney Teams knock off the non Sydney Teams-Especially Storm/Cows/Broncos - A bit of Brotherly love perhaps :-)

Didn't say they shouldn't be celebrating, just that they're going a bit overboard. Does little but paper over some obvious cracks

3 bigs out for the Storm sure but Cordiner is the heart and soul of that team and the Roosters didn't play very smart tonight one has to admit- maybe thinking two points in that bag without the effort required- Coach Robbo a seemingly nice bloke would be livid even with the win- be good to see them play later on this year at full strength though and both in top form.

Of course they should. Two points is two points. And a come from behind win like that is great for team morale

I don't believe it what a hoodini effort to win that game by the Roosters - Storm will be licking their lips as they say knowing when the big 3 come back they will be play like funnel webs untouchable- Only the Sharks can match them
