Australia and England are the two undefeated teams of the competition, flexing their muscles against the weaker teams and grinding out wins against the tougher opponents.

In their semi-final, England beat Jamaica by one goal. It was a thrilling match that went down to the very last second, where England scored a final goal to result in a 56 to 55 victory.

The Roses are enjoying a record-breaking Games and will finish by making history in their first ever Commonwealth Games gold medal match.

Australia smashed New Zealand by 21 goals in Saturday’s semi-final to secure their spot in the final match of the Netball competition.

It was another dominant display by the Diamonds, who were able to capitalise early on some Silver Fern errors and continue their impressive shooting accuracy.

Coach Lisa Alexander continued to rotate her Aussie players, allowing all twelve to spend time on the court against New Zealand. The versatility and balance of this Australian squad is its biggest strength.

Who makes the starting seven for each side will be intriguing, given there are many combinations for both teams.

Another interesting factor that may play a role is the number of English players who spend the winter out here in Australia for Suncorp Super Netball.

For this game several players will be fierce international rivals, but in a week’s time they’ll be back to being teammates.

Prediction
The Roses have had an exciting run to the gold medal match, but the Aussie Diamonds are the strongest team in the world right now.

Their form this Commonwealth Games has been nothing short of incredible; shooting at 94% for the tournament, they will look to continue this accuracy in the goal circle for the gold medal match.

While England will try their best to keep it tight, the favourites from Day One, Australia, will be too good and finish with gold.

I have not done enough research on it and I am not sure I want to if complex political wrangling is involved as it is inevitably. However I feel that women’s sports are getting more popular and more exposure, slowly but surely. Top female athletes like Jessica Ennis, Ellyse Perry, Sam Kerr and Sally Pearson as well as the success of the women’s cricket team, netball team and soccer team are really getting higher profiles and generating excitement from the public. My step daughter is just starting to get involved in sports and netball and it would be fabulous to see her progress as she has never been a sporty person. it may be a pipe dream but it would be absolutely radical if there could be a world competition featuring all the major field world sports such as soccer, rugby 7’s, shortened version of Twenty20 cricket, (Ten ten as played in the UAE recently) hockey, basketball, volleyball, netball and baseball with the AFLW and perhaps American football being invitational sports to spread their coverage. With no single game being longer than an hour and held in a neutral seasonal month such as September for both hemispheres to participate. It could be called something like the Pan60 Women’s Games. (60 referring to 60 mins) Of course all the formalities and details would need to be fleshed out but it would be a bold move and I guess people are just going to ridicule it. Anyway it’s just a thought. If it worked though, you can bet the men’s competition would gladly follow. As a man I would not care if the women got there first and indeed would applaud it. What do you reckon? Or should I just crawl back into my hole. Haha.I am serious though. It would really help to propel women’s sports into the place it should be now.

What a game. Some of the best athletes in the world fighting it out, in a tough physical contest, right to the end. Love the brand of Netball being developed. If this is an example of what we are going to be seeing in the forth coming Super Netball season, I cant wait. Bring it on girls.

.....great for the game of NB I reckon. NZ & Australia have both dominated this game for too long. Well done Albion, brilliant effort, while I trust other nations can build on this momentum to ensure the great game of NB evolves more equitable. Well done to our team as well, you have done your very best and while disappointed you should all be extremely proud of the high standard you have sustained in the game of international NB over decades. You are great ambassadors of NB, both here and abroad and remain our champions, win or lose.......
