Waratahs vs Reds: Super W live scores, blog

By Tom English / Roar Guru

The first ever Super W grand final sees the traditional NSW-Queensland rivalry in action as the Waratahs and the Reds battle it out in Sydney. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog starting from 4:45pm AEST.

They both come off good seasons to date, as New South Wales look to finish this competition undefeated with a win tonight, while the Reds will aim for refirst-roundtheir first round loss to the Tahs.

The top two ranked sides, from the five team competition, qualify for the Super W final automatically, which both did with a round left.

The competition took a break for the Commonwealth Games, which played perfectly into their favour, with the Brumbies, Waratahs and Reds men all having home games this round, setting up potential double header scenarios.

Even briefly looking at the results so far, and it’s obvious NSW are far and away in the best form, their smallest winning margin being 18 points (vs Queensland, Round 1).

Worth mentioning that the Tahs seem to have traded attack for defence, conceding just 15 points across four games, at 3.75 per game!

Attack sees 131 points over four games to the Tahs, at more than 32.75 per game, but Qld scored fractionally more, with 134 over four games, conceding 38 more than NSW over the comp so far.

Some hope for Queensland – the Tahs only come third on the try scoring tally with 19, as the Reds have scored 21. Western Force lead it with 22 for the record.

Alysia Fakao-Silea has been a standout for Queensland, coming third in the total points tally, and second in the tries ladder, and she is someone who will know what it is to beat NSW, having done it in the Brisbane Global Tens final.

Prediction
NSW have the defence to beat Queensland, not to mention a vibrant attack.

Now, does anyone know where I can find Biltong and Harry? Apparently the "overrated Lions season will be imploding with this game?

Outstanding quality and intensity for the first season. Hope they make this a trans Tasman Competition one day. Would be great to watch a double header a home games.

What a game, and Ash Hewson opened the scoring with a penalty goal in the 12th minute, but it didn’t last too long, with an intercept Try from a Morgan pass, going to Lavinia Gould. Hewson secured the lead at halftime with a penalty goal in the 37th minute, but Qld were back in the lead early on in the second stanza, with Marsters scoring a great try, which put them out by four (albeit for 19 minutes), with Melissa Fatu scoring a great try! Te Mara kicked a penalty goal to level things up, and that took us to Golden point extra time. It was obvious that both teams were feeling the pressure, but NSW were the victors in the end, with a Penalty Goal to Ash Hewson 16 minutes past the Hooter. Thats it from me, seeya on Sunday with the NRL from 4pm!

This could be a shared premiership, if neither team scores.
