Final score
Brisbane Lions 12.10.82
GWS Giants 16.13.109
We’re headed to the Gabba for Saturday twilight footy, as the Brisbane Lions host an under-performing GWS Giants outfit. Join The Roar for live commentary and scores from 4:35pm AEST.
The Giants have disappointed this year. No doubt ‘bout that. But, they’ve improved substantially – before last week’s bye, of course.
Their last outing was in Adelaide, where they defeated a free-falling Crows’ outfit in a damn fine performance.
Still, though, every win is vital as they struggle to stay in touch with the finals race, and in a way today becomes a necessity if they wanna hold their own against those above them.
Brisbane’s only won one, but they’ve been okay. Their last match was a deflating loss to the Bombers, but they’ve largely been relatively competitive in most games – particularly when they’re playing in Queensland.
Lots of talented men around the oval for this one, with the likes of Jeremy Cameron, Lachie Whitfield and Josh Kelly all finding form for the Giants, and Harris Andrews, Dayne Zorko and Danye Beams providing plenty of fine performances for the Lions.
Expect Andrews and Cameron to be particularly good to watch today, especially if they’re matching each other.
Ben Keays has been omitted for the Lions, whilst they’ve also lost Daniel McStay to injury. Josh Walker and Rhys Mathenson are back in the side.
The Giants’ have lost a trio of their men: Rory Lobb and Daniel Lloyd are injured, whilst Harry Perryman has been dropped. Stephen Coniglio, Dawson Simpson and Jeremy Finlayson all rejoin the squad.
Prediction
I genuinely feel there’s a fair bit of upset material in this encounter. Honestly, it could go a few ways: If the Lions are within a few goals at the final break, expect the crowd to get right behind them. If they’re struggling early, expect the Giants to pounce.
I’ll back the Giants though; they’re just too good around the ground for the Lions team. I in no way expect this to be a blow-out though. Brisbane will hold their own, but stagger late.
GWS by 22 points.

Christian will come up with some sort of dribble just like he did with Dustin Martin, 2 weeks I reckon.

This one is crude but your memory is dimmed young Macca. Lockett should have got 16 weeks minimum and would have got it nowadays. Cameron won't get near the 8 weeks Lockett got.

You are right Pope - one is a full forward streaming out of the square and ironing out a full back coming back with the flight f the ball with an elbow to the head and tthe other is a full forward streaming out of the square and ironing out a full back coming back with the flight f the ball with an elbow to the head. Completely different.

Only reason it wasn’t as bad was because Cameron is a skinny gutless cat. The intent was just as much there as Lockett to do damage I mean I hated the orange frankenstein before this but if this what passes for football down there then this scabby team is perfect for the great grey scab on the earth that is western Sydney

Not even close to Lockett on Caven. 4 or 5 max.

And there's full time. It's the Giants by 27 points. Brisbane far from disgraced, though - but forgetting about the result, there's really only one story from this game: Cameron's hit on Harris Andrews. Brisbane: 12.10 (82) GWS: 16.13 (109)

BEHIND GWS Another minor score: this time, Griffen misses with his drop-punt from the left boundary line. This is just teasing the Lions now. Brisbane: 8.9 (63) GWS: 13.11 (89)
