The Suns will try to steal a big home win over the much fancied Magpies on the Gold Coast, as their season continues to plummet to further depths. The Magpies season has looked impressive so far and, sitting pretty in the top four, they will look to continue their strong form.

Gold Coast have not been able to call home a fortress throughout their short lives but they will look to get a win and break their streak of eight straight losses. Collingwood are riding high with five straight wins and are pushing hard to finish the season in the top four.

As if the season couldn’t get any worse for the Sun’s their captain Tom Lynch has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury, the injury is horrible for the Suns and it may end up being the final time they see their star forward in the yellow and red as he is a free agent at seasons end.

Jordan De Goey has been a star this season and with talk that he has re-signed with the Magpies after turning down lucrative offers elsewhere he will be out to prove he is worth the new contract.

Last week’s game for the Suns was one they would want to forget, after a strong start they then went on to go goalless for straight quarters as the Hawks ran over the top of them in Tasmania, some late goals in the final quarter to the Suns (their first 4th quarter goals in over 4 weeks) was a consolation but not enough to keep them in the game.

Collingwood fought off a spirited Carlton side who threaten to cause the boilover at times.

The Magpies have won the past 4 games against the Suns and this week doesn’t look like that streak will be broken as the Suns are struggling with injuries as well as poor on field play, Collingwood are hitting their stride and playing at a level not seen for a number of years now.

Poor kicking and a lack of attacking last week against the Hawks was disappointing and will need to be assessed this week if they are to have any chance.

The Pies started slow before running out 20 point winners against their old rivals Carlton, in what was a lacklustre display at times they will want to play at their best from start to finish and get a percentage boost if they are able to.

This is a game the Suns could potentially catch a top four side napping but Collingwood should be expecting the Suns to come to out strong and kick away themselves.

Prediction
Collingwood by 40

Anti Collingwood bias? You have more of that than me going by your comments earlier in the year, good to see you have jumped back on the bandwagon. I only asked the question which the most passionate Collingwood supporter on here pretty much agreed with so that's enough for me.

Kane, you have shown your anti-Collingwood bias. How pathetic! Just look at the favourable run-in Essendon have. They will make the eight should they beat us on Sunday. Our current spate of injuries and their recent recovery makes the upcoming game critical for the fortunes of both sides. One side wants to get into the exclusive club while the other wants to stay there. My money is on Essendon despite my black and white heart! This week is a turning point in our 2018 campaign. A win will get us September action, but a loss can prove to be catastrophic!

The recent injuries have highlighted what folly has been displayed on this website with premature predictions being made by scribes and contributors alike. At present, we need to throw Darcy Moore or Sam McLarty or Nathan Murphy on the pitch and hope that we can stay injury free for another eight or so weeks. The future does not look very bright and the recent drop in form is directly associated with the loss of talent at crucial stages. Can Eliott and Fasolo give a bit of respite to the forward line and release some runners into the middle of the park so that Treloar's absence gets covered? Can McLarty and Moore cover Dunne? Can Reid get fit to help out? All of these issues will be preocupying the selection panel and no finals appearance is guaranteed at this stage! As for the fixture, this is linked to last year's poor showing. However, bear in mind that there are quite a few difficult games ahead and we could rather quickly fall out of the top eight and finals could be just a pipe-dream. Reality first!

The results of your remaining games will tell a story of whether the Pies are the real deal or not I reckon Pete.

Kane - draw is generally based on last year results. And worth remembering Collingwood finished 13th last year.

Don't know about the conspiracy theory Kane but there's no doubt we got a fantastic draw. Let's see how we go against Bombers, Eagles, Nth, Swans and Tigers.

The question must be asked about the draw that Collingwood have this year, Eddie must be pulling a few strings down at AFL headquarters. The amount of games against bottom 8 sides from this and last year just doesn't add up.

Collingwood too strong for the Suns. Collingwood have cemented their place in the top 4 with an impressive 39 point win over the Suns on the Gold Coast. Collingwood finished 14.15. 99 to Gold Coasts 8.12.60. The two sides fought hard in the first quarter with Gold Coast kicking the first goal of the game, again like last week the Suns looked strong in that first term but Collingwood found their footing to lead by 7 points at the first quarter break. The second quarter was all Collingwood as they broke open the game and prevented the Suns from kicking their first goal until late in the quarter. A six goal to 1 quarter with Josh Thomas having 3 at the half was enough to put a stop to the Suns chances even at an early stage of the game. The Pies led by 32 points at the major break and were looking to push the lead higher and give themselves a percentage boost. The third quarter was another tough tussle from both sides with Collingwood maintaining their edge throughout. The Suns had seemingly run out of legs but they kicked the last 3 goals of the quarter and looked like they may try and chase down this lead. The Pies were able to get the Suns turning the ball over and making simple errors to keep their edge throughout the quarter and go into the final term with a 40 point lead. The final quarter was a sloppy quarter with only 2 goals kicked for the entire term, the Suns kicked the first one through Aaron Young but from that point on the two teams were trading behinds throughout. A few errors to the Suns were again costly as they could have easily had 1 or 2 more goals for the quarter but the Pies were able to defend well. A late goal to Josh Thomas for just the Pies first goal in 30 minutes was enough to put the game well and truly away and give them their top 2 spot. For the Pies their next month is difficult, with games against Essendon, West Coast, North, Richmond and Sydney while the Suns season looks like a lost cause again as they will be facing a tough trip south to play the Kangaroos at Etihad. Josh Thomas lead the goal scorers with 4 while Jaidyn Stephenson added another 3 for the Pies. Nick Holman was the Suns top goal kicker with 2. Touk Miller led all possession getters with 33, Taylor Adams led the Pies with 30

Collingwood are barely hanging on to top 2 at the moment, they are still there thanks to percentage but Gold Coast are just a few points off knocking them back down the ladder.
