Pint-sized playmaker Allan Langer will forever stand tall at Suncorp Stadium after becoming the latest Queensland rugby league great to be immortalised in bronze at the Maroons’ spiritual ground.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed before Wednesday’s State of Origin III in Brisbane that a statue of the former halfback would be constructed outside the venue.
Langer’s likeness would join statues of fellow greats Arthur Beetson, Wally Lewis, Mal Meninga and Darren Lockyer at Suncorp Stadium.
Former Maroons captain Langer played 34 Origins for Queensland and 24 Tests for Australia.
“The QRL is fully supportive of a statue for Alfie and we’re only too pleased to see his contribution recognised in such a way,” Queensland Rugby League managing director Rob Moore said.
“He is a figure Queenslanders strongly relate to and his accomplishments and influence have extended well beyond what was an exemplary on-field career.
“Few people know this but Alfie is actually one of a very select band of players to be granted life membership of the QRL and that is indicative of the regard in which he is held.”

Come on, he would have one hand on you before you tripped.

Is the statue of him in his jocks on a tabletop?

Nah, it'll be erected on the bar at the Normanby.

Dunno about an Alfie statue, surely putting a tripping hazard in a public concourse is a law suit waiting to happen

It came down to a choice of Alfie or Petero and the price of bronze has been skyrocketing lately...?
