Melbourne have certainly had an up-and-down season in 2018, a state of affairs they are not unfamiliar with, however they are poised to make their first finals appearance in a decade.
Although it looks like a pretty straightforward contest, this match is of vital importance as it’s their last chance to bank an easy win before what will be a challenging finish to the season.
After today Melbourne have matches against Sydney, West Coast and GWS to close out the season – there’s no guarantee they’ll find more premiership points there.
The good news for them is that they have an excellent percentage, which they can hope to make better still today.
Gold Coast, on the other hand, were very disappointing last week, failing to back up what looked like a breakthrough win the week prior against Sydney.
They had an excellent opportunity to notch two wins in a row, but were flat and uninspiring when they hosted Carlton at Metricon Stadium.
Things are worse this week – they’ve lost Steven May to suspension, David Swallow and Rory Thompson to injury, and bizarrely have made the call to drop Jarryd Lyons.
That means former Magpie Jarrod Witts will captain the club in just his 37th game for the side.
Prediction
This won’t be pretty.

And the biggest shock how the hell did Gold Coast best Sydney the other week

I think the silence on this speaks volume for the interest in the Suns... they’ve become so irreverent. I know Carlton are deplorable but at least have a really strong history and strong heartland support

In a round full of close results, it appears the Blues and Suns will both go down by 100+ points. Not good for the game.
