The Wallabies need change at No.10

By The Crowd / Roar Guru

After yet another thumping by the All Blacks, aided by unimaginative thinking by coach Michael Cheika, it’s time for change at the Wallabies.

You can’t fault Cheika when it comes to his passion, belief, and devotion to his players – they’re all admirable qualities, but one of Cheika’s biggest attributes (player devotion) is also his greatest weakness.

In a nutshell, he has to drop Bernard Foley, and put Kurtley Beale or Matt Toomua at 10. It’s that simple. Beauden Barrett has completely outplayed Foley in every sense, and there hasn’t been a Rugby Championship, Bledisloe Cup or World Cup victor without a world-class 9/10 relationship to run the ship and create plays.

Steve Hansen is prepared to make the bold call and has shown what it takes to be an international coach, and has created a consistently winning side. We are consistently losing, and in doing so, losing our fanbase.

Please Michael, make a change at 10 – we cannot beat New Zealand two out of three times with Foley at five-eighth. History has proven it so.

Forget the defense (if only for a moment), we need to score points! 12 and 13 points in the last two matches? Please.

We are in danger of losing both games to a resurgent Springboks, and will have our hands full against Argentina with Foley at 10.

If that’s the case, sadly, you shouldn’t be the national coach, and we need to bring someone in with more imagination when it comes to putting the best team possible out on the paddock.

Perhaps you should watch games then. Off the top of my head I can name multiple test matches in 2013 where he played complete and decent games. Final Bledisloe in Dunedin. Vs Wales in Wales. Vs Ireland in Dublin and Vs Scotland in Scotland. There's 4 games in 2013 alone.

Piru You may be right to a point but surely there can and should be another person who comes on in the last 10-20 mins and at least gives Foley a rest. The player management of Foley's game time is shocking don't you think?

Spot on TWAS. It is also sheer lunacy that Foley has played so many games in a row. That isn't a criticism of him but absolutely is a criticism of the player game management by the coaches/selectors.

I used to be a big Godwin fan but I don't think he has developed as well as I'd hoped he would. He wouldn't be the 3rd best 12 in the country let alone the first.

TWAS I think its intent was to punish negative play but when someone legitimately goes for the ball and misses by their fingertips and then gets a YC then that is in itself negative imo. The referee should be able to make an assessment as to whether it was a professional foul or a legitimate attempt rather than an automatic YC.

QC drew the crowd??? I wonder what the other 40 odd players thought about that? :)

Matty Quade was OK as Piru says. Frankly, if you looked at all the 10's playing last weekend he was hardly a standout. That is Piru's point. He wasn't anything special.

Foley stopped what looked like a certain try by Jodie Barrett. He broke the AB line to set up Maddock’s try. What exactly did Beale accomplish apart from falling off a few tackles? Expecting Foley (or anyone else) to outplay BB is dreaming

Quade Cooper is not and never has been a good rugby player and that's the very reason he's doing what he's doing now, playing Club Rugby! He has tried to ape Carlos Spencer for years and as yet has never been able to play anywhere near the capabilities of that exalted All Black who used to mesmerise his opposition, ~ Cooper could never mesmerise his cat or dog! Like everyone else on here I've seen Cooper play a lot of rugby and am yet to see him play a complete and decent game, he's incapable of it and that is borne out by his shocking Super and International record, he doesn't have a record! The game he played the other day was rubbish as usual, a no tackling heap of junk! As a Maori descended and born in NZ dude, he says he wants to play for the New Zealand Maoris, he'd have as much show of that ever happening as he would making a tackle! ~ The Kiwi Maori's need players that can play rugby not a 'show pony' who continually dances around on the spot for a minute or so then crabs sideway and decides he can't go forward because there's a couple of burly forwards coming at him so he shells the ball out backward to no one and that move breaks down! Beale should go with him as he does nothing either and is really nothing less than another show pony always going nowhere, his only move he makes is rushing forward for an intercept which even I could do, that's his lot! Sadly Aussie' Rugby is in a quandary through a major lack of quality players, but I would say that Cheika would never ever put Cooper in to replace Foley, there's not a lot wrong with Foleys rugby at first five, and considering the massive amount of games he's won for Australia why do you guys want him to go? ~ He's adequate at First Five and would certainly be in the top two or three best goal kickers on any rugby field!

No, everything Cooper did was amazing - literally everything.

It's not bias Anton, it's confirmation bias on the side of yourself and mates above. I've said (repeatedly) that he wasn't terrible, just wasn't as good as everyone wants to make out. You don't see that, you just see criticism. Some of you need others to hate QC so you can go on your little woe is me, poor Quade rants - that's fine, but I'm done with it now, there's no discussing it with you.

That's out of context though, we're discussing in the context of fan punditry.

I think it's enough of a risk and the likelihood of knocking it on is such that it's unlikely to become all that common a tactic, and even if it did attacking players can adjust Throw a dummy and run into the gap!

Nice deflection. Your trademark .He did box Ritchies ears and BT got quite cross that his pal was beaten up by a little number 10. One world cup win, France won in 2011.The world knows it. Thierry Dusatuoir knows it.New Zealanders haven't realized it.

I don't mind it in that it punishes negative play. But what I found frustrating is the Bris City player attempts to be positive and take and intercept and is yellow carded for his effort. Thrush is deliberate and cynical and is only penalized. Had the Bris City winger made no attempt to catch like Thrush did I'd agree with the logic of the law.

Then again, maybe I am biased. But I did attend the game and recorded the game and watched the replay (mostly on fast forward). Cooper even got a turnover from a tackle he did. That was a surprise, so I checked it on the replay. It was him. I was mainly trying to see myself in the crowd. No luck there.

Gotta say, you have a very obvious bias in you assessment of QC’s play. He was good in this game, he definitely did not throw an intercept pass, plus he drew a massive crowd. Why be so overtly unfair?
