Pocock out: Wallabies hit by major injury blow ahead of Springboks Test

By The Roar / Editor

The Wallabies hopes of getting their first win of the Rugby Championship on Saturday night have taken a massive hit with news that David Pocock will miss the match through a neck injury.

Pocock has been inarguably the Wallabies’ best-performed player throughout the Rugby Championship so far, putting in excellent performances despite big losses to the All Blacks in the opening two Tests.

Although there’s good news for the Wallabies in that Israel Folau will return from an ankle injury for this match, Pocock’s absence is bound to make it significantly harder for Australia to beat South Africa.

Pocock sustained the injury during the second Bledisloe Cup match, two weeks ago at Eden Park.

“You feel it after games and it’s not something you probably want to think too much about,” Pocock said.

“It’ll be sore but hopefully it’s nothing serious.

“It’s something the refs had said they were going to really sort of look at.”

Pete Samu will replace Pocock in the Wallabies’ starting side at No.8.

Wallabies team to play Springboks
1. Scott Sio (47 Tests)

Pointing out the absurdity of selecting on race and not ability is letting yourself down? It's not Tman letting himself down.

Neutral is quite right. The Maori ABs are clearly racist, selection criteria is based foremost on race and not ability, the very definition of racism. The Maori ABs have been designated the second team of NZ rugby so somebody of non-Maori heritage is denied the same pathways to national exposure that someone of Maori heritage has access to. Imagine if the English second team (the Saxons) was only open to ethnic English, after all, they're the indigenous people of England and furthermore rugby is a cultural product of the English.

Never trust someone who claims neutrality. Delusions of moral grandeur come to mind. I think the Sanctimonious Smarmy Swede would be a more accurate moniker.

Lol. Neutral, even if I named twenty names of people who were driving the protests, that still wouldn't prove or disprove the level of Tew's involvement. You have made the claim that he was one of the leading voices so the burden of proof is on you to back up this claim. Logical reasoning is not your strong suit I see.

Missing games is now a gauge for cheap shots? Lol. You keep on embarrassing yourself with every post.

Swede, it is Trumpian to make a claim and then say the onus is on us to prove you wrong. You have made the statement, you need to prove it right first. That’s how it works. There have been a number of people with first hand knowledge and experience of what you have stated, and are refuting your claim. I would say , what are essentially first hand eye witness accounts would be enough evidence for most claims. What more would you like?

A fact most people seem to ignore that the initial injury was that Laumape clean out. With his history of neck injuries, trainers and coach should have been more concerned.

I think it’s tjme ylu took the ‘nuetral’ out of your name. Ain’t none of us here neutral. We all have natural bias and once you have been involved in the game, whether watching and discussing m or playing, you do develop. Bias. Yours is starting to show more often now, bro.

I did do that search. I got 7 cheating vids before it flowed jnto tribute and GOAT videos. Most of the stuff was hands in the ruck, which is his job. Just like Pocock and Hooper. A video of ‘hands off black 7’, just shows he is doing a 7s job. Nice try at a smoke screen, but no one is buying what you’re trying to sell.

As a Kiwi and an adult at the time of the Springbok tour you are commenting on plus I attended 4 games of the tour I think I can comment - you are wrong on Steve Tew, John Minto was the leader of HART and the voice of protest, I meet him a couple of times, my dad drove the bus for the police unit who followed HART around the South Island, not a good tour but made for interesting times in NZ.

2018 Samu played 14 games for Crusaders, 5 starts, 9 as Sub, 547 minutes, 2 tries, he played 15 games in 2017, 7 starts, 8 as Sub I thought he was better in 2017 but he didnt make Wallabies for 2017 season, I think Cheika thought he would select him so the ABs couldn't even though the wouldn't and now Cheika has to keep selecting him to justify spending $50k for a player Wallabies didnt really need - just another poor selection from the sole selector

I don't think it is a conspiracy, I just think the rule to protect players necks should be applied.

Any player using a neck roll should be yellow carded. Isn't that the rule?

I dont care what you do. You just keep proving over and over again how uninformed you are, how you keep poking your nose into things you know nothing about. I mean...who does that? Now we know youre also culturally insensitive as well as nai!ve I supposed we learned something today. Enjoy the tests tonight. All good. What time is sweden playing anyway?

Is it not telling that loosing Pocock is a major blow given what he does for the team is nigh on irreplaceable but the Tahs losing Hooper is - "I hope his replacement will do well" - he does and the Tahs don't miss a beat. So I guess the only reasonable thing to do next is pay Hooper $6m and lock him in for five years. cue face palm imoji.........

I disagree. A Coach is paid to make the hard decisions. (1) Pick your best open side flanker. who is the probably the best in the world or at least in the Top three. In case you were wondering Hooper is not one of those three.(2) Pick your best No.8 Which again is not Hooper.. ergo he is benched or not picked. QED.

Rhys, don't you know that Kiwis that don't stand up for McCaw 24/7 can be prosecuted and go to jail? ;)

Never denied he got a few kisses, but again, nothing is that serious really. He could play on after every single kiss and did not miss any Test due to cheap shots or illegal play from the opponents. Still, some Kiwis around here cries loud when I am just stating the obvious. If you wanna have real fun on YouTube, search for "McCaw cheat" and you will find A LOT of videos.

Interesting that you wanna spin that McCaw was targeted with constant dangerous cheap shots. Sure he got a few kisses, but again, considering how seldom he was injured it can't really have been that bad. It would have been so easy to hurt a player like McCaw seriously if anyone really wanted to do that. Just calling a spade a spade, as always.
