Box Hill come from behind to defeat Demons in VFL Grand Final

By Dem Panopoulos / Expert

In another epic VFL Grand Final, the Box Hill Hawks were crowned premiers after an astonishing comeback in the final quarter.

The Hawks hit the lead for the first time in the last quarter and simply kept going.

It was a fantastic display from the Hawks, led by young forward Dylan Moore, who slotted three goals, David Mirra and the inspirational Brendan Whitecross.

From a Casey persepctive, another Grand Final loss left fans and players alike, shattered.

Bayley Fritsch was the best player for the Demons in his first VFL game of the season, however, like many of his teammates, he had no influence in the final quarter.

Negative tactics from the Demons, to hold the ball and go at a slower tempo, came back to bite the team, as Chris Newman become a premiership coach for the first time with his clean and decisive tactic of spreading the field, then going through the corridor.

Box Hill’s victory keeps the Hawk era alive at VFL level, with the club’s successes over the past decade a testament to the quality the senior team is able to produce.

David Mirra was awarded with the Norm Goss Medal as the best player on the ground, after moving to defence in the second half and being extremely influential.

Casey Demons 8.12.64 def. by Box Hill Hawks 10.12.72

How about this for the red and the blue. Melbourne lost both AFL and VFL, Norwood lost SANFL and West Perth lost the WAFL.

Nice to bag another VFL flag and also salute in the VFLW granny for the first time. As Jeffrey says, Hawthorn lives to win silverware. Congrats to Chris Newman for a brilliant development year - will be in the box with Clarko next year IMHO. Go Hawks!
