Former Wellington Phoenix coach Mark Rudan will lead Western United in their first season in the A-League.
Western United have finally unveiled Mark Rudan as their inaugural manager following months of speculation that he would lead the A-League club.
Rudan parted ways with Wellington Phoenix earlier this month and has signed a three-year deal.
“It’s an opportunity that couldn’t be passed up. To have a blank piece of paper to create what you want … there’s going to be some bumps on the way but I’m more than confident we’ll see those through,” he said.

Sorry thats a real technicallity. He moved to Wellington not knowing his family wernt going with him? He didnt realise he would miss them? Its a real shame he is not a man of his word. He looks to be a decent coach but this decision to leave Wellington with a year to run on his contract proves a lot as to what sort of person he is. Good coach average human.

Western United have jumped the gun on this one a bit, IMO. Wellington have gone from 9th to 6th and Ruds is being hailed as Christ the redeemer, I don't get it. A solid start to his A-League career, yes but it's 6 months. It's great to see an all Aus line up of Rudan-Hutchinson-Anastasiadis and they should be commended for that, but the lack of A-League experience is very surprising.

And taking half the Phoenix squad with him? Reckon he would love to bring Roy Krishna with him.

So his comments on leaving Wellington were technically correct. The best kind of correct. He hadn't signed a contract at that point and he was moving back to Sydney to be with his family.... before moving with them in a few months to Melbourne. Talented coach and all the best to him.
