Where do the Newcastle Knights go from here?

By The Roar / Editor

It’s been one hell of a rollercoaster season for the Newcastle Knights in 2019 but, with the club currently in a trough, they’re at serious risk of missing the finals for the sixth season in a row.

With a squad boasting the likes of Mitchell Pearce, Kalyn Ponga and David Klemmer, expectations were high on the Knights coming into this season.

But, apart from a six-match winning streak through May, 2019 has gone nowhere near to plan for Nathan Brown’s men.

A 1-5 start put them well and truly behind the eight-ball and, after that win streak, they’ve now dropped five of their last six.

Can the Knights recover to make the finals? How much pressure should Brown be under?

We got Roar NRL expert Mary Konstantopoulos on the Game of Codes podcast to put the spotlight on Newcastle and work out just where it’s gone wrong.

Listen to the discussion:

Following a horror fortnight that saw the Knights demolished by the Roosters 48-10, before suffering an almighty upset at the hands of Wests Tigers at home, Brown has swung the axe at the selection table and named a host of changes for this weekend’s match with the Sea Eagles.

They sure go through a lot of players. So much for club loyslty ,there's about 2 players left from 2016 squad.I wonder how long young Brailey will last, maybe his ex sharks team mate Jessie can give him a heads up on the Hunter Brown experience.

or Dandenong? Remember that poster a few years ago that suggested Dandenong as one of the 16 (or 20) NRL licences? I had to look up where it was? It's in the rust belt of nowhere!

BA, I was thinking thinking the same thing. Only one thing for the Knights, the solving of all club problems according to one pos(t)er, relocation! The Central Coast Knights playing out of Gosford. With the Titans struggling, bring back the Bears (apparently everybody wants this?), the Bears RLFC (not regionalised) playing out of Carrara! Perfect!

Just get rid of Brown, another failed ex Dragon from a failed team. Trent/Molly/Brown just rubbish, if you want your team to disappoint get an ex dragon bought up under Brian (waynes Bunny) smith

They are going the same as the Titans "no where" and as a matter of a fact, the Knights are wishing that their record in the last few years, was as good as the Titans! Its a lottery with the Knights, anyone's guess?

I'd ask Adrian Megale, but I'd bet it involves Manly, Cronulla and Canterbury being relocated to Darwin, Derby and Upper Cumbucter West.

For a team that hasn't finished higher than 7th in the last 13 years (and no other team has a record that bad), the Knights sure get a lot of air time around here...
