I admire Dejan Lovren for his Twitter spat with fans

Dejan Lovren has taken to Twitter and proven that he still has the back of his previous employers and teammates at Liverpool.

He took on a few angry fans who were slating the team after an abysmal performance against Aston Villa where they lost 7-2.

Many fans and pundits slated Lovren for the numerous errors he made during his time at Liverpool.

However, I was one of the few who admired him. He was one of the few players who knew how to take a punch and throw one at the same time.

Jurgen Klopp showed faith in him for multiple seasons and surely the reasons for that were more than just football.

He was not the most talented or skilled centre back in the Liverpool team. However he brought a certain amount of heart and spirit that probably no other Liverpool player had.

In hindsight, he did not have an illustrious career during his time at Liverpool.

He lifted the Premier League and Champions League, represented his nation in a World Cup final and shockingly picked up at least one trophy for each club he has played at least two seasons for.

There were instances when I was frustrated by his error-prone defending. But when he was the one to blame for mistakes, he was right there trying hard to ensure that he corrected his errors.

Other than that, he brought to the dressing room a very positive attitude.

He knew how to lighten the mood and make sure that players do not brood over bad losses. He had a certain amount of pizzazz that very few players possess.

Lovren was a player that built relationships during his time at Liverpool. He was best friends with Mohamed Salah. He built a good rapport with the fans on social media as well.

What I admire the most about Lovren is that even after leaving Liverpool, he still checks in on his teammates and interacts with fans.

Most recently, after the shambolic display against Aston Villa, fans were slating Adrian and the other defenders. He came to their rescue and asked fans to have faith.

He even took on a few of them on Twitter. Given the #KloppOut and #FSGOut brigade, Lovren had the back of his ex-manager and friends that he made during his time as a red.

I could not agree more Arnab. The passion and never say die attitude Lovren brought onto the pitch was unparalleled. That was one of the reasons I believe Klopp stuck with him for as long as he did.

I'm pretty active on twitter yet didn't see that. Will do so asap. As for Lovren, I've loved him. Sure, he may not be the greatest CB but this bloke was a refugee during the Balkan War. Although no one should have to go through such an experience, it puts things into perspective eg some things are bigger than football so what if you have a bad performance here and there?

Sorry to hear that you got stick for furnishing your opinion, that is plain wrong. I have a personal policy of just rerooting and blocking hateful and harmful people who tweet rubbish for no reason at all. That's the least we can do.

I'm just pleased that the message is getting out there. I've had too many bad experiences of sharing my opinion online and more needs to be done so even just trying to spread the message is a good start. The details of AI go over my head so can't comment too much on that! But you can't go wrong with human moderators even though they can't keep an eye on everything, sadly.

Yes, I have, but I am not sure how effective it will be to be honest. I do not know how difficult will it be for AI to intervene and ensure that such tweets with targeted hatred just don't get published!

Have you heard about Sky Sports' campaign against online hate? These kinds of vile comments seen after the Villa-Liverpool game is exactly why one is needed.

Couldn't agree more. It gives a loud voice to people who end up using to get attention and make a point rather than use it constructively. Hence, I liked what he did, he really stood up to fellow footballers having to read vile comments about their performance in one single game.

Goodness, don't listen to what most people say on social media. The bile that most people on there come out with is why I no longer use it.
