The Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua megafight must wait

By Willie La'ulu / Roar Guru

After a dominant display against Kubrat Pulev, Anthony Joshua seems to have his swagger back.

Knocking out the Bulgarian in the ninth round, the fluidity of Joshua’s movement seemed to progress.

As for the reigning WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury seems to be waiting for his mega-fight with AJ.

Fury, who is coming off huge win over the formerly undefeated Deontay Wilder, is hungry to unify the belts once again.

The two Brits, the two best heavyweights in the world, must end up on a collision course – it is what the world wants to see and definitely what heavyweight boxing needs.

However, the megafight and it’s guaranteed massive purse must be put on the backburner.

There is no set date when crowds will be allowed to pack out arenas, especially in the UK. This fight could easily sell-out 90,000-capacity Wembley. Do they want to risk that kind of gate take?

Why rush this enormous fight and miss out on such a huge crowd? We must be patient and wait until the venue can be filled.

If Fury is forced into a trilogy with Wilder, he’ll win easily, thus giving him a good tune-up fight to prepare for Joshua. For his part, AJ could take up the Oleksandr Usyk option as a means of warming up.

These would serve as a great entree for the main course, which would be Fury vs AJ.

As much as I and the rest of the world want to see the fight happen, we must be patient so the fight can be given to us at the correct time, and use tune-up fights to keep the interest maintained.

I want to see this fight at its peak, so casual fans and non-believers in heavyweight boxing can appreciate the great era we are currently in, between two men who could go down in history as some of the UK’s best.

It going to be a big one. Darn Covid, if these organisations and these two and include wilder could really build these battles. Like early 70’s stuff or the 80’s super comp that Tyson came out on top off (can’t remember what that was called). Could be so epic, bid fight between two of them every six months. Lol.
