India's humiliation continues, losing 3-0 to South Africa in ODIs

By Luqman / Roar Rookie

After losing the Test series, India have now also copped a pasting from South Africa in the ODI series.

The tourists certainly had stronger batting and better bowling than their hosts, however they couldn’t utilise it, while the Proteas pounced on everything loose from Indian bowling.

South Africa will remember this series win for a long time, while India will try to forget it.

The first and most important aspect for reflection is the captaincy change, as when KL Rahul took over from Virat Kohli, India didn’t handle the change.

Then there were too many changes in the lineup. Shifting from Test cricket to limited-over series can be a little tricky and India made a few too many changes in their lineup. They altered their batting order as well as the bowling attack and it let them down.

The third one is that intensity on a cricket field is key and India lacked it. When Kohli used to be the captain, the intensity in the Indian camp was through the roof, but when Rahul took the command, that intensity was missing.

South Africa did an incredible job by beating India in both series, particularly against an India side that was at the summit of its Test cricket and were doing very well in the white-ball game.

Losing to Australia will be humiliating; losing to South Africa not that much.

It’s a long drawn out Enquiry investigating racism in SA Cricket . Most high profile of many accusations came from Thami Tsolekile a wicketkeeper who accused Graeme Smith of bias when with the retirement of Boucher Smith favoured AB de Villiers over him in the team . Same player along with 4 others also claimed race prejudice when in the 2016 investigations into match fixing they all got a 12 year ban . The one guy I do take seriously is spinner Paul Adams who said he was made to feel like an outsider . It’s a real typical South African political mess . My big question is why now after all these years to come out with it when it could have been done anytime in the past . The Board of SA Cricket when this Enquiry was initiated were on the verge of being dissolved by the SA govt which constitutionally have the right to do so . The more cynical amongst us feel that this was introduced to curry favor with the sports minister and deflect attention away from their own issues of fraud , theft and all round incompetence. Didn’t work tho . He still dissolved it to avert SA Crickets suspension from the ICC . My take is there is a lot of noise and posturing but very little will be gained for the millions spent on this process .

They got there. The R word in a comment automatically goes to moderation. This whole saga sounds head-scratching as it seems very surprising that any white international cricketer in SA (or most places) would have gone into that territory, but I don't know much about the story.

Difficult to change what’s in a persons heart but SA have more than enough actually an oversupply of constitutional protections and laws prohibiting racist behavior . In other words nobody can stop an individual thinking whatever they want but they cannot act on it without repercussions. Not much more anyone can do than that . As for the Cricket , last series where SA beat an Aus team in disarray was the first time in 19 years they had beaten Australia in a series in SA . Also have a better record playing England away than at home . So don’t really agree that they always win at home . On the contrary , best travelling team in World cricket .

South Africa normally win at home and nothing has changed. They beat us last time and may well do next time. No-one ever gives them a chance and they love to prove everyone wrong. As for racism well it is par for the course there, and adapting to modern expectations is beyond the ability of many explayers. They are racist at heart and don't pretend not to be very well. It will just take longer there given that we're not to flash in Australia either.

Nah . Aus too strong I think ...but ...India was too ...SA team super young and if the combo of Rabada , Ngidi , Olivier , Nortje, Maharaj and throw in new sensation Jansen ..isn’t the best bowling attack on the planet then they not far off either . And as England discovered, bowlers win matches ...

I am not quite sure South Africa at this moment can defeat Australia.

Think SA Cricket are treading very carefully around the report . Already some accused of racism including Graeme Smith are letting their lawyers handle it . Mostly from what I see the accusations are subjective and hearsay and vehemently denied by Smith . They are definitely open to legal challenges. Even possible defamation suits . Not saying there is any truth in them but I don’t know . Also some accusers currently serving a 12 year ban for match fixing which brings their credibility and motives into question . Let’s see .

I think from what I have read about it is that SA Cricket are having to tread very carefully. It’s not just Boucher accused of racism it’s a whole bunch including AB de Villiers , Graeme Smith and more . But almost if not all allegations are hearsay and definitely subject to legal scrutiny. Smiths lawyers are already handling his side . Ie What is the real motives behind the allegations or at least some of them . The entire report is definitely subject to legal challenges as well as potential defamation suits . Not saying some players felt excluded for whatever reason but given that some of the accusers are currently serving a 12 year ban for match fixing brings their credibility to the fore . Let’s see .

Strangely no news on the Boucher Paul Adams saga on this cricket site. Maybe not newsworthy around here?
