What time will State of Origin Game 3 actually start tonight?

By The Roar / Editor

Game 3 of the 2023 State of Origin series between the Queensland Maroons and NSW Blues is scheduled to kick off at 8:05pm AEST in Sydney tonight.

UPDATE: Game 3 kicked off a little late at 8:08pm. Join in on the action in our live blog!

In recent years the actual kick-off has been reasonably close to the scheduled time. However, before that it was a long-running joke about how much the scheduled kick-off was dragged out, presumably to get more advertising spots in for Channel Nine before the game.

This year’s Games 1 and 2 have been quite close to the mark, with the games kicking off at 8:08pm and 8:07pm respectively, only slightly behind the 8:05pm kickoff.

Either way, we can still have some fun by predicting when the kick-off will be.

The Welcome to Country and National Anthem usually take place around five minutes before kick-off, so we should know by then whether the match will actually begin on time.

Will Origin II kick off within five minutes of its schedule like for the series so far, or will we see it get dragged out longer than cinema commercials and trailers before the main event?

Thanks for taking part in Origin Bingo. The most common guess for kick-off was 8:12pm. We also had one response suggesting 12:01am.

Doesn't matter what time it starts . We'll still have to put up with the brain dead commentators that are there - week in week out .

This hasn't been a thing for a few years now. Channel 9 have listened, and they have learned. They were rightly seen as a laughing stock for dragging it out a few years back. They've stopped that now.

They only run late so they can get all the stragglers through the gate. It has nothing to do with Harvey Norman or Sports Bet. Shop responsibly.
