Mike Fitzpatrick wore the BigV...but that was before SoO.

Maybe Rozee will captain WA,Malcolm Blight captained Victoria one year, thats how serious they took it back then

I think Mick Malthouse killed it when he wouldn't let Eagles players play. They made up injuries.

I'm certain players would. Being in the 23 of the 100 West Aussies in the AFL would be every bit as important as an AA selection.

Tim Miller sums it up well in the other article. Loads of talent but not all in sync at the moment. Nicks with his Sydney Swans background should have all the right ideas for success. But he did most of his coaching apprenticeship at Port under Kenny where he would have learnt SFA.

fans might love SOO but the players have no interest in it,its a national competition and you play against sides from other states week in week out,if they played SOO now it would just be another version of AFLX but you would wear a different jumper

SoO has endured because there’s only two teams. Victoria really killed it because if the VFL clubs had a player up for duty in a SoO that didn’t involve Victoria they’d kybosh his selection. It became farcial. Ironically RL’s success is because it’s only in two states.

It's like how l picked West Perth because the great Johnny Wynne. Man, that guy was a champion clubman. And did he know how to marshall a team or what.

I agree but starts are so important to one's belief. We may yet produce what we should. Prior the season start I had us in at Top 6. Losing Tilly is obviously a thing but he's only one person. Tex was a bit scrub but it was his first game so ... ------- I'm a big believer in leadership. In the various footys the coach is the equivalent of a cricket captain. Adelaide play according to Nick's character. They play excuse me footy. We'll do something with ball if it's amiable to do so. Like taking opportunity if only all who are concerned with the contest agree. As pointed out by Dem we dined out on some carrion boosting our percentage but losing too many tight ones when it was on the line. That's a lack of martial desire; no argument.

I think he's a capable contested mark but it's a lazy, weak and craven way of getting a grab

Amen. A State of Origin game would p00p on an "Opening Round" or that gimic weekend in South Australia.

Toni Casserly. Great player. Captain coach of Centrals? I hated Port of course. If you didn't barrack for Port you hated them. Nothing much has changed. The SANFL and WAFL was arguably as good as the VFL at times in the 70s and 80s. State of Origin matches certainly showed that. Started by WA in the very first Origin match in 1977. Barry Cable, Featherby etc. I miss Origin. Probably the greatest matches I ever saw in person down at Footy Park in Adelaide. The cream against the cream. AFL teams are too selfish to let it happen again. They don't know what they are missing.

Ah. Back in the day, I barracked for Port Adelaide because East Freo was the port side here. When we lost Tony Casserly to Central Districts, I barracked for them. Now, I just get interested in whoever from WA is playing in the SANFL.

It’s only March and there are still 21 games to play. It’s too early to be ruling Adelaide out of the finals. Or Geelong in..

Spent 24 years in Adelaide Don. Been a North Adelaide supporter from the age of 8 when living in Broken Hill and played for North Broken Hill (same club as Tex) followed by Crows supporter when they entered the AFL followed by Raiders supporter when we moved here in 2000. Still juggle the three.

Spot on. He's been doing it for years and gets away with it. He's too big and cumbersome to take marks legitimately. So he resorts to the push. Good luck to him I suppose but we don't have to like it. I miss the athletic forwards of the past who could climb above the pack and take marks - Carey, Brereton, Dunstall, Lindner, Robran, Davies, Cornes, Ablett, Blight, Modra etc. The game is a poorer spectacle without them. Hawkins couldn't hold a candle to that lot.
