The early-season surprise packet Gold Coast Suns look to make it three in a row against the winless Fremantle Dockers at Metricon Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).

After a dreadful loss to Port Adelaide in the first week, it looked like it’d be another long year for Stuart Dew’s Suns. However, they’ve been a new team since the break, crushing both West Coast and Adelaide in stunning performances. With several young prospects blooming, the wheel on this cursed club might finally be turning.

The Fremantle Dockers, under first-year coach Justin Longmuir, are another young side and look to be closer to the start of their journey. They were competitive to the end in their first two losses to Essendon and Brisbane, but found the going a bit tougher against the Power last week.

Freo have had a surprisingly tough time dealing with Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium over the years. While they won on their first three visits, two of those wins were by seven points and they’ve lost their last two.

Ryan needs to stop being used as a shutdown defender and become that Paul Duffield type interceptor again, Wilson is soft as butter, wouldn't be against him having a spell but sadly we are so short in defence already.

Longmuir has a huge job and by the end of the year things can be better. We know the six players that are not playing AFL level but the ever reliable Ryan and Wilson are sadly out of form as well. They will get better and big body proven AFL players Blakely and Acres will come in this week and give us sone inside grunt.Hogan looks ready to explode. Valente and Henry are close, Serong will get better.Returning to Perth and a key defender or two later in the year where on track for a finals berth come 2021.

Hambling is handy :) we miss him and Pearce but I agree, Collins should have stayed on the list he wasn't terrible when with the Dockers. He is a solid backman, big body, maybe a good foil for Logue if he went down.

Overlooking Naughton and Tim English were mistakes, We didn't overlook Jackson, he was taken at #3 and I'd say if he had made it to our picks we would have snaffled him up. I'd be looking at using Brayshaw as trade bait to get Jackson from Melbourne in a year or two, he can go be an average B grade midfielder alongside his brother.

Don, we are 17th, we are 0-4 and next week are facing basically a wooden spoon playoff. Regardless of how 'competitive' we have been in games we can't keep losing. We have a young list but so much of our young talent isn't playing. Even you yourself (the most optimistic Freo fan in history) have called for Matera, Colyer and Conca to all be getting the chop. Why aren't we seeing progress from the likes of Brayshaw and Cerra, this is their third season and they are being completely outplayed by a fourth gamer! It's not good enough! Like a lot of people on here, I've seen positive signs but I have serious concerns about the state of our list, I think it genuinely lacks talent, Longmuir has a bigger job on his hands than I first thought.

Well if Darcy can play out three or four full games in the seconds that would be great he would be a welcome return to the side but he has not been able to do that for a long time. In the meantime at least give Meek a couple of games. Nothing to lose I am sure JLo won’t be like Ross and leave players on the list for years without giving them a opportunity.

2017 List. Look at the ruck men on the list. Darcy-Sandilands-Jones-Strnadica-Apeness-CLarke that is six. 2020 List. Darcy and Meek that is two or three with Lobb who was told he was going to be a forward. Darcy cannot stay on the park. One extreme to another. We are over loaded with small players. We overlooked tall players Aaron Naughton who played back at Peel and WA tall Luke Jackson.

Are your tall guys only 5'8"? The "little tall guys"?

Why so disappointed? Freo has lost all games by small margins, 3 of them to the top 3 teams. The biggest loss was 4 goals to Port and in that game, Freo won 3 of the 4 quarters. This is the youngest and least experienced team in the comp...they are doing really well. Ross built such a strong squad and this year will bear that fruit. Quite possibly a 13/4 season. That could see them on top.

Your right Tommy Lyon has puts us back years .We have very little tall guys. Collins got axed. Freo have not drafted enough talks and traded in a heap of small, medium guys. Matera, Conca, Shultz, Switkowski, Colyer, Bewely, Aish, Wilson, Acres and McCarthy. Who are the very tall back men that we have traded in ?

Brayshaw needs a spell, I think we are fast realising the guy just isn't that good. Give Valente or North a look.

If Darcy could get fit and actually run out a whole game, great play him. I’d bring him in this week too but I’m not holding my breath, the guy isnt fit enough to handle the rigours of AFL football.

For every Matt Rowell, there are 5 Andrew Brayshaw's. Most draftees dont turn into out and out superstars and GC knew that was a particularly weak draft. If we had used that pick on an Aaron Naughton or Tim Kelly, a WA local, then I'd say we would have broken even in the Weller trade. Brayshaw is a poor man's Matt De Boer.

Come on Don when did Darcy last play out a full game ? He is talented but a huge risk. Just because you don’t win the tap outs doesn’t mean to say you can’t read it off the opposition’s. Basic football skill.

I dunno about that, if we extend freos history they gave up Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas, and the infamous Trent croad trade

Gold Coast have had way more and Rowell is a exception Brownlow material.Dew can take them there if they stick together. Would not swap Young, he is a different type of player but 100% class his kicking is exceptional.Freo should be working on a extension on his contract.

I think Gold Coast absolutely hammered freo at the trade table and that’s saying something haha l.

Ben Sokol will struggle at AFL level, he has an odd style of play and I don’t know if that’d cut it at AFL level, but I think he could be a shrewd pick up. I think that the afl should first start with what they did for the suns and blues a couple years ago.
