Charlie Dixon returns for his first game of the season as Port Adelaide look to return to the winners’ list against Essendon. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 4:40pm (AEST).

After four consecutive wins, the Power’s run of form hit a wall in defeat to Geelong last week. It leaves last year’s preliminary finalists with a 4-6 record, and still with plenty of work to do to recover from their five losses to start the year.

Dixon’s return, having missed the first ten rounds with a series of ankle injuries, is a major boost for the Power, whose forward structure has struggled mightily without his presence. It means emerging youngster Mitch Georgiades makes way, with recruit Jeremy Finlayson and the developing Todd Marshall to join Dixon in attack.

The Bombers have been even poorer than the Power to start 2022, with last year’s surprise finalists sitting in the bottom four with a 2-8 record.

Rebounding defender Mason Redman has been one of the few shining lights for the Dons this year, so his absence through suspension is a major blow. However, the returns of ruck Andrew Phillips, defender Jordan Ridley and midfield tough nut Jye Caldwell soften the blow.

When you say Hinkley's the worst coach in history, there can't be any context, particularly as he's got Port into numerous finals including prelims. Can't agree, Joel.

I expect Ben Ruttens resignation first thing Monday morning. The club needs to listen to their supporters. Extending Xavier Campbell was a mistake and allow Rutten to continue will also be a mistake

You're missing context with all those names Birdman. Hinkley has had a talented list for his entire decade at Port Adelaide, yet only has a 50 per cent finals rate and three prelim final losses to show for it. Those other blokes took over terrible teams that no-one could do well with.

There hasn't always been 18 teams in the VFL/AFL so I'm not sure your theory flies.

I have seen the Dons play one good quarter all year. Can they make it 3 good quarters in 2022?

That quarter is pretty much Hinkley's career in a nutshell. Team is being dominated, but has no idea how to try to fix it. How the man survived more than a couple of years above VFL level I'll never know.

No coach in AFL history has been with the same team longer than Hinkley without making a Grand Final. That makes him the worst coach in history.
