Having been humiliated last week, the St Kilda Saints simply cannot afford to lose to the lowly North Melbourne Kangaroos at Marvel Stadium. Follow along with events from Melbourne with live scores on The Roar from 4:35pm (AEST).
Once again, this match will be played behind closed doors due to the Victorian COVID-19 outbreak. However, the Marvel Stadium roof will remain open to comply with protocols, though fortunately there is unlikely to be rain.
The Saints were thumped by the ladder-leading Western Bulldogs last week, the 111-point loss seeing them dominate the headlines during the week. The Saints were meant to be one of the premiership contenders in 2021; yet after 10 rounds they sit 14th with the AFL’s second-worst percentage – ahead of, of course, the Roos themselves.
As forecast, Brett Ratten has rung the changes for Round 11, with five new faces in the starting 22. Among them is debutant Oscar Clavarino, who has become an eye-catching intercept marker in the VFL.
If not quite as disappointing as the Saints, the Roos’ 2021 so far has been even more wretched. Just one win and an ugly percentage of 56.3 leaves the Shinboners marooned dead last on the AFL ladder.
There have been occasional bright spots, though: injury-prone forward Taylor Garner appears to be finally getting a solid crack at senior football, while the much-maligned Aaron Hall has emerged from nowhere to become a crucial cog at half-back.
The Roos have nothing to lose in this game, while the Saints are on the ultimate hiding to nothing. A win is unlikely to convince the doubters, while defeat simply doesn’t bear thinking about.

Half my life it was just a question of where in the top 4 we’d finish. It was an absolute shock to get our first wooden spoon. The pain has become numb over the years.

'71 was the first I can remember which got me on board with Huddo in his early prime. I've always felt lucky but I never take the 'next one' for granted.

Done well. I’m on 8 in my lifetime but only old enough to remember 5. Been a dry spell for the last 25 years.

Haha. I'll guess I just have to take solace in the 14 flags the Hawks have won in my life time. How about you?
