Geelong have brushed off a persistent Sydney Swans side to take their 14th win of the year and remain a game clear on top of the AFL ladder.
Tom Hawkins kicked five in his 250th game, Tim Kelly had 31 disposals (the most out there today), while Mitch Duncan, Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood were on top in the middle.
After an even first half, a dominant third term saw the Cats cream rise to the top and lead by 22 at the final change.

The Sydney Swans host the ladder leaders the Geelong Cats at the SCG on Sunday afternoon. Join The Roar for all the action with live scores and a blog of the match from 3:20pm AEST.
It’s a big opportunity for the Swans, who could steal a win against a struggling-for-form Cats squad.
Chris Scott has made some changes and will be looking to his leaders to stand up, closing in on the end of the home and away season.
A last-ditch effort by the Swans to steal the win in the final term was unsuccessful, as they fell to Fremantle by one point in Perth.
Sam Reid kicked three on a low-scoring night and Jake Lloyd had 42 disposals, but the team lost clearances and contested possession and ultimately the game.
Geelong also suffered a loss, a 24-point defeat at the hands of another clinical Hawthorn performance.
The Cats started okay, but Alastair Clarkson and his Hawks were able to play their game and if they were accurate would have absolutely demolished Geelong.
It was the Cats third loss in five games and they are now only one game ahead at the top of the table.
Sydney have been forced to make one change.
Will Hayward has been sidelined with a hip injury. According to John Longmire, Hayward’s hip hasn’t been right for a while and now needs a break.
Jordan Dawson was suspended for rough conduct and missed the trip to Perth last week, but immediately returns to the team.
The Cats have also elected to three changes.
Gary Rohan and Zach Tuohy have been left out for the trip north, managed heading into the business end of the season. Rhys Stanley has been omitted.
Zac Smith replaces Stanley, lining up in the AFL side for just the second time this year.
Scott Selwood and Jack Henry also return to the line-up.
This will be Scott Selwood’s first AFL game for the year following a strong stint in the VFL side, where he has featured in the best players for the last six rounds.
In Round 11, Geelong defeated Sydney by 22 points at GMHBA Stadium.
The Swans were on top of the contest early, but a second-half fight back from Geelong secured the home side’s victory.
Young Swan Oliver Florent will play his 50th AFL match against the Cats.
Geelong’s Tom Hawkins will reach the 250-game milestone this weekend; the key forward arrived at the club under the father-son rule in the 2006 national draft and has been the Cats’ leading goal-kicker for the last seven years.
Prediction
With five rounds to go, Geelong are happily on top of the ladder, but seeking consistent form.
In Hawkins’ 250th, the Cats should get up despite this being at the SCG.

This tuul climbs out of the swamp to have a go. Useless inaccurate assessment.

Ronke should be banned from kicking for goal!

Kind of went as expected really... The talent of the young Swans kept them in the game until half-time, but the experienced heads of Geelong (selwood especially in the third quarter) allowed them to kick away in the second half. I wonder if the Swans recruiting department is looking at any mature age additions for next season? It's worked wonders for Brisbane!

Sydney at home are always a formidable challenge, regardless of ladder position. Cats performed well.

No, no connection to Billy. But he does strike me as being a fine fellow. A little strident & coarse with his language at times, but deep down, still a decent chap from what I can gather.

Hope not. Probably best to sack him and maybe let Buddie go.

Swans are finished as any kind of force in the afl, with or without longmire. They have tumbled off the cliff and there is no coming back.

Roger, Geelong are not as good as Brisbane ,West Coast or Richmond ATM but who cares let's wait and see how good they are in eight weeks.Sour Grapes.

Bit cryptic. Anti horse? I am not anti Sydney, I knew a lot of Souths players and my kids play for South Melbourne.

I think there should be NO hands at all. Why is the person who gets front spot penalised by having ‘johnny come lately’ getting an unfair advantage? Blanket rule: no hands means no grey area. —- An abstract that should govern all rules is that all grey areas should be removed to reduce confusion.

I would prefer afl to be banished from nsw

Well JT, I don’t mind debating but saying something with no justification doesn’t truck with me.

And by the way, that’s what the Cats do to lowly sides, get 30 points up and practice holding them. Lucky you have locked the Horse in, should be a few years of boring footy at the bottom of the ladder. Could always sack him and employ Lyon.

Not at all. I think Roger is right on the money there.

Good to see you magnanimous in defeat. But absolute unfounded rubbish.

What this game did show apart from the future of the young swans is Geelong ain't that good, not in the same league as west coast or richmond

Thanks for following along everyone, tight game early, but Geelong remain a game ahead on top of the ladder with a strong second half. Gold Coast up in the last game for this round... against Essendon. I'll be back next week for more AFL.

Hawkins kicked five in his 250th game, Kelly had 31 disposals (the most out there today), while Duncan, Dangerfield and Joel Selwood were on top in the middle. After an even first half, a dominant third term saw the Cats cream rise to the top and lead by 22 at the final change. For the Cats, they'd be please with their attack (16 goals is much better than recent weeks), intensity (which really lifted after the first term) and their dominance at the stoppage. Smith had 35 hit-outs in just his second AFL game for the year. He arguably did not come up against a first ruck, and either he or Stanley would have dominated - but it's good to see him come in and get 35 and 12 disposals. Isaac Heeney finished with three goals, as did Dawson. Ronke had impact as the late inclusion, but missed some sitters, only kicking two (with four behind) Early on the defenders were caught out, their nerves causing them to make illegal contact in contests and giving Geelong some easy shots at goal. The lack of ruck hurt again, with the Cats midfield just a little too good for the Swans. Final Score Sydney 12.8. 80 Geelong 16.11. 107
