Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli brings up his 200th game as they take on Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:35pm (AEST).
Arguably the Bulldogs’ greatest ever player already, Bontempelli’s first 199 games have brought with them a premiership, four best and fairests, four All-Australian selections, an AFL Coaches Association MVP and a Leigh Matthews Trophy, along with many other smaller accolades.
In career-best form to start 2023, the Bulldogs are 3-3 and fighting for finals largely due to his brilliance. Not even the loss of Tom Liberatore to concussion should prevent another starring role for the milestone man, with another star in Bailey Smith back from a calf injury to bolster the midfield.
For the Hawks, a pair of excellent performances in recent weeks have ended in heartbreak, losing thrillers to GWS and Adelaide and being sunk by winning goals in both games.
With spearhead Mitch Lewis back from a knee injury for his first game of the season, and young gun Will Day also returning from suspension, the Hawks will head in confident they can spoil the Bont’s party.

What about the Hawthorn player, I can’t remember who it was, who was in his back and threw the ball up and hit it, play on. Or the multiple times that Hawthorn players were caught but no holding the ball. Or Naughton getting mauled and his arms chopped every time he went near the footy. That’s footy, not everything goes you way but, like I wrote, the umpiring was particularly bad today, but that’s not why you lost.

Hawthorn had plenty of opportunities in first half but squandered in front of goal. Horrible game & wont bother watching highlights.Hawk support shouldn’t bother worrying about umpire decisions like you suggest Nort they are a odd bunch.

I missed it I'd just walked out the room and came back and was like what happened. Must be pretty bad for no replay to be shown. Usually that means bits of legs pointing in directions they shouldn't.

Whoa hooo man, that must feel alot better now, been managing to keep a rough eye on scores and hawks looked like they were putting up a good challenge for awhile there. We've only.got the North v melb game now on TV and yeah we'll unless your a Melbourne fan it's very very average lol.

First 5 mins of 3rd qtr. Clear chopping of Greene's arms in front of goal - play on. Next minute it's down the other end for a Bulldog goal despite Impey being pushed in the back to keep him out the the contest. 12 point play right there. A couple of mins later Brockman juggles a clear mark - play on. The Fox commentary team were bemused.

Really? The umpiring was horrendous all game. Who knows what these umpires thought the holding the ball rule is. The reality that Hawthorn couldn’t kick a goal in the third; that’s not the umpires fault.

Poor second half by a young Hawthorn who were maybe feeling the exertions of the past 2 weeks and possibly demoralised by some horrendous calls early in the 3rd qtr which helped the Dogs build a decent lead. The first half was pretty pleasing tbf but we need more effort across the whole game.
