By The Roar / Editor

This is the most brutal barrage SOS has endured since his time as Carlton list manager!

Hate to tell you Geoff, skill and NRL should never be mentioned in the same sentence. Most NRL players can't even kick the ball let alone catch it, in fact it defies logic even to call it Football.

Reckon The Godfather "Serge" would give them both a touch up, even at his age.

Yeah , just family fun .Real boxers open you up for the big punch.Read the Karmichael Hunt article he said AFL more taxing on the body due to amount of running.Yes , NRL is tough but ask everyone who has played AFL how it feels to be tackled from behind nose down into the dirt ,it ain't soft.

Having the last word means nothing to me, but if you make a comment that I disagree with then surely I have the right to reply.

Do you like the way the club is heading? I guess something had to happen. Might take a couple of years to get over the Collective Mind fiasco and Pyke legacy

Not sure having a ‘boxing technique’ is a requirement to play AFL.

Fair enough - I guess the ball gets turned over so much in AFL so that possession isn't as critical. If you are the Rowdy I'm thinking of you are a Crows supporter as well. Might be a blessing that the season has been shut down. But then again if the youngsters in the team are to learn and improve they need to be playing.

Actually just showing a bit of boxing technique would have been sufficient.

So they were having a bit of fun not a proper boxing competition. Would you have preferred to see them punching each other in the head?

No worries. I’ve been NSW for more than half of my life shifting from SA when l was 29. I’m very familiar with league. I was just pointing out that what one can say is a strength, of one, is the other’s weakness. —– On the knock-on business RL will not risk losing possession as it’s a possession game. No passes will be made unless it’s a try on offer. Or otherwise players take the wrap. In AF territory is king, and with players coming helter-skelter at you, of course possession will be at risk. When I coached AF in NSW high schools l preached ‘territory’. All other footballs, in Australia, are possession-based. —– And explain the incongruity of ‘no tackling in AF’ as espoused by some of the more strident RL fans. When they say that it means they’ve never watched a game critically. But it is a foreign concept, to your average RL fan, to think you’d actually be rewarded for a tackle…..by gaining possession of the ball.

Not sure that my first comment was inaccurate. I'm pretty surprised that both father and son had no idea how to box - I would have thought it would be a skill they would have acquired in the gym as part of getting fit for an AFL season - it obviously isn't.

You obviously haven't seen a lot of league - to do what they can do under high impact collision is amazing - the merest drop of the ball turns over possession - in comparison AFL is a knock-on-athon. Anyway no one will win this argument. Both have their merits. For some historical context I left Adelaide in 1995 - am firstly a North Adelaide supporter and secondly an Adelaide Crows supporter - but have gravitated to League as I support the local Raiders team in Canberra.

I'll adjudicate. Australian Football is the greatest game. Glad I settled it. ----- AF is way more skilful. All you have to do with the ball, in RL, is throw and catch. Oh, and some guy who is the specialist kicker? Which just has me ROTFLMAO. On a football team you have a specialist kicker? Really??? Handpassing, paddling, rucking and bouncing are all extra ball skills. Shepherding and 'shoulder n hips' are also not done in RL ----- The League players I've played with have said the required spatial understanding is a whole other level. That's a skill few have. ----- I had one League player wanta job me for tackling him. He got up after being dumped all aggro-like. The Ump stepped up and said to him, "New to the game?". It was Uni games at CSU in 1998. Newcastle v Wagga. We had one or two and he said he honestly didn't think you were allowed to tackle in Aussie. Which has always made laugh because if that was the case all you'd have to do is run with the ball to the goal because there is no tackling. Beggars belief really.

Well your initial comment about them being cream-puffs was ridiculous. A father & son who are probably isolating like everyone should be were having a bit of family fun. As for your opinion about the NRL being the greatest game of all, well you are entitled to that opinion but I totally disagree. Australian Rules Football is the greatest game and that’s from someone who has lived in Brisbane for 43 years and watched Rugby League as well.

Ridiculous thing to say - NRL is the greatest game of all Col. And that's a comment from someone whose followed both codes for decades. NRL players are tougher and just as skilful as AFL players. Mind you I reckon Stephen Silvagni would have made a pretty decent full back in the NRL given the way he used to bring the ball out of defence.

Wouldn’t surprise me that NRL father/sons beat each other up as they aren’t very intelligent.
