Will the end of hub life see Tim Kelly rocket the Eagles back into premiership contention?

By The Roar / Editor

His first year back in Perth didn’t quite live up to the hype- will Tim Kelly’s second be better?

I think Port, Geelong & Brisbane wouldn’t be too happy with your GF comments, together WCE they all have genuine chances in my view, especially Port.

I'm a diehard eagles fan and will happily say we were terrible in the hubs a bunch if sooks and result was what sooks deserve. Soon as we hubbed at home we dominated. That's soft not good enough but we will not do that again not with the ageing list we have. Richmond vs WCE Granny Results probably Richmond they are that good but we are the only team good enough to possibly beat them.

We were weak in the hubs full stop nothing no excuses to be made we were sooks and the results were what to be expected when you sook. Soon as we hubbed at home we dominated. Simply weak and I'm a diehard eagles fan but have no problems acknowledging the truth. We are better than that and this year we will show that. Richmond vs WCE Granny....results great game probably bloody Richmond will win they are that good. Would be the best Grand Final possible as we are the only team possibly beat them. If WCE don't make it it's Richmond

Look I think with luck in the injury front the Eagle should play finals, but if some of their older players get injuries I worry they won’t be able to cover them. Let hope they have a fantastic season.

I’m a diehard Eagles supporter but don’t agree with all the fuss about the hub. They went into their 1st game vs Gold Coast expecting to win, that’s it. I just reckon they took it for granted and didn’t prepare the way they should’ve. The GPS data showed they ran more in a scratch match the week before, how is that possible? If there was anything that effected them in Queensland it was the slippery conditions not suiting their kick-mark game style, but that is something that will come up every time they play in the wet. Everyone reads way to much into players personal lives. Just think of our own minds when we play sport? Does anyone think of anything other then the game you are playing at that moment?

Yeah I think Hurn will be a much bigger loss then people expect. He has been forever reliable and almost injury free. It will be pretty hard to replace his 60 metre pinpoint kicks. So often its his kicks that have broken through a zone, or have started an attack from defence. A lot has been spoken of Kennedy and co. But I think everyone has just become accustomed to Hurn just being there and doing what he does. He has barely missed a game in 6 seasons, so we really don’t know how the Eagles will play without him. Whoever replaces him will surely result in more turnovers and effect the game plan.

The effects of hub life on certain teams, especially on vulnerable players, is real, as Gerard would say. Players with families certainly had a lot of anxiety about the season and several returned home for long periods or indefinitely. Gaz went home, Bachar went home, Sidey went home and stayed home. Kelly brought his family with him to the hub, but that was just replicating what he did at Geelong. The whole idea was to have extended family involved in the daily lives of his partner and kids so that he could have the best of both worlds. However, hub life just made things worse than ever. Other Eagles players had trouble dealing with hub life from the outset and of the 4 WA and SA clubs in the initial hub on the Gold Coast, only Port enjoyed success, with Freo and Adelaide having a terrible time, as West Coast lost games that kept them out of the final 4. Don't sleep on West Coast to bounce back. Nothing good ever comes from it. Just ask the Suns, who made a sickening pick trade banking on the Eagles to slide down the ladder in 2018 after 6 retirements and 6 delistings in 2017, but instead the Eagles won the flag and got 3 gun players for nothing.

My friends son plays for the Dockers and I follow them with a great interest, so I have to agree with you I think they are in a better position than The Eagles in the near future.

Guess time will tell…..hope your right WCE would hate to see all those WCE supporters crying about the unfair draw, the grand final played in Victoria, the Victorians, Geelong home games, the weather, the position of the sun in the sky, day light savings, covid 19, Brisbane, the colour of the grass, every other supporter, the colour of the jumpers, the taste of water, the shape of Australia, the trees around the ground, the ocean taste funny, other opinions that don’t blindly paint The Eagles in a positive light……. Sorry but I do Worry…….

Schofield retired so no need to worry yourself about him. Eagles will make the finals no need to worry about that also Cracka.....

Yeah I think Kelly can make a huge difference to the Eagles midfield, I would be more worried about the Eagles aging stars in key positions in 2021, Nic Naitanui 31yo ruck, Luke Shuey 31yo mid, Will Schofield 32yo def, Shannon Hurn 34yo def, Josh Kennedy 34yo FF, from a injury front and who will replace these players if they are injured for large parts of the season, but if they have a bit of luck with injuries they will play finals and I think Liam Ryan will have a huge say (superstar) on how far they get in 2021…guess time will tell,
