Retired ruckman Peter Everitt and his ex-St Kilda coach Grant Thomas have clashed on-air over the latter’s claims regarding the AFL’s issues with recreational drug use.
Thomas says that he was told after his five-year stint at the Saints by a former player that recreational drug use was “rife” at the club.
And Everitt, who played under Thomas between 2001 and 2002 before departing for Hawthorn and later Sydney, took aim at his former coach during an interview on his Gold FM Gold Coast radio show.
The three-time All-Australian was critical of Thomas for making the claims on his “Sam, Mike and Thomo” podcast, questioning whether he had done enough to verify them.
“Every time now, we’re [former players] going to be questioned,” Everitt said.
“I think you’re a liar.”
Thomas defended his conduct, saying he “can only convey what he has been told”.
Meanwhile, the AFL has announced it will review its illicit drugs policy.
