A rained-out fifth day at the SCG has seen India officially win a Test series in Australia for the first time after turning the final match into a non-result.

Australia will resume 0/6 at the Sydney Cricket Ground looking to avoid defeat against an Indian side pushing for a 3-1 series victory. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the day, starting from 10am (AEDT).
There was no play in the morning session due to bad light and rain, but Australia eventually resumed day four 6/236 with Peter Handscomb (28 not out) and Pat Cummins (25 not out) at the crease.
Everyone that has been watching the Test over the first three days has discussed how good the SCG wicket is for the batsmen, but Cummins discovered very early on day four that it perhaps had a few flaws.
Mohammed Shami bowled a good length delivery which rolled and bowled Australia’s in-form cricketer for 25.
Handscomb looked good and continued where he left off from the previous day, but Jasprit Bumrah got one to cut back into the Victorian, which saw Handscomb chop the ball back onto his stumps. He departed for 37.
Nathan Lyon came to the crease, but Kuldeep Yadav trapped the spinner LBW for zero, leaving the Aussies at 9/258.
Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood fought hard and got Australia to 300, but Hazlewood was dismissed for 21 just as Australia got to the milestone. Starc finished 29 not out.
Yadav also finished with five wickets for the innings, but his job was not done as Virat Kohli decided to enforce the follow-on, as the Indians still had a first innings lead of 322.
Kohli’s decision meant this was the first time in 31 years Australia, on home soil, had been sent back in by the opposition to bat again after being dismissed in the first innings.
The Australian openers Usman Khawaja (4 not out) and Marcus Harris (2 not out) only had to face the four overs due to bad light and rain.
There was only a total of 25.2 overs played for the entirety of day four.
Australia will resume the final day 0/6, trailing India by 316 runs. The task is simple for Tim Paine’s side – bat the day out and draw the Test.
Kohli, on the other hand, will be looking to claim a 3-1 series victory.

Not sure. How would he go with a Duke ball? But he is mentally weak. Doesn’t have a big heart. We have a long history of baggy greens with big ticker. Starc has the heart of dropped pie

If Warner played, we would have only won the sledging and low life banter

LOL, that is laughable. You can't control toss.It is what it is. And as for gabba, you agreed to their terms. The team secretion & pitch was some part responsible, but biggest reason was pujara. I said it several times, he reminds me of rahul dravid.

Virat Kohli: “I’ve never been more proud to be a part of a team than this one right here.” Tim Paine: “Congratulations to Virat and Ravi. Huge effort to come and win a series overseas.”

Thank you for joining The Roar throughout the series. There is still plenty more cricket we will be covering over the remainder of this summer, so stay tuned. Congratulations to India, who become the first Asian team to win a Test series Down Under!

Lets have a look at this series, firstly india refused to play in Brisbane due to bouncy pitch, secondly india didn’t want to play day /night test in Adelaide due to swinging ball. They won 3 of 4 tosses and we won the test when we won toss. Our best 2 batsmen were missing. However, I feel they really dominated in Sydney and showed they were the better team here when the pitch was even for both teams. I just wonder what would have happened if we had smith and warner, I think you’ll agree the result would be different

"Canes"? Is that them T20 entertainment troupe what needs a 'batter'? Even the Australian Test captain is into this anti-cricket.

All for Pattinson to get a go he is a great bowler but he has to come good in shield in some way first with respect to bowling loads and or wickets. Otherwise it's another selection specky. With respect to the middle order they should select on foot work so it for me rules out marsh and stoinis so it's burns and maxi with renshaw in for backup

He doesn't only get tail end wickets at all. McDermott was the one who really brought Starc, Pattinson and Hazlewood along and as soon as he left and Saker took over they have gone backwards. Getting rid of him is the first thing they should do and get McDermott back and if he isn't willing then Gillespie

England would beat that team. Renshaw and Bancroft need runs before getting picked again and we need Warner if we want to win. Maxwell average of 41 and strike rate of 73 has to be way ahead of stoinis average 33. Stoinis average is 33! My team Warner Harris Smith Khawaja Burns Maxwell Paine/wade

Does it have to be a male cricketer? There are probably 10 better female knew before the first deserving male.

Would leave out Will for a bit longer. If he is already having some issues with the pressure why push it. Wait til he is a bit more mature and doesn't have the pressure of being the next Aussie hero. Get a good few batsman around him before he is picked
