Australia will resume 0/6 at the Sydney Cricket Ground looking to avoid defeat against an Indian side pushing for a 3-1 series victory. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the day, starting from 10am (AEDT).

There was no play in the morning session due to bad light and rain, but Australia eventually resumed day four 6/236 with Peter Handscomb (28 not out) and Pat Cummins (25 not out) at the crease.

Everyone that has been watching the Test over the first three days has discussed how good the SCG wicket is for the batsmen, but Cummins discovered very early on day four that it perhaps had a few flaws.

Mohammed Shami bowled a good length delivery which rolled and bowled Australia’s in-form cricketer for 25.

Handscomb looked good and continued where he left off from the previous day, but Jasprit Bumrah got one to cut back into the Victorian, which saw Handscomb chop the ball back onto his stumps. He departed for 37.

Nathan Lyon came to the crease, but Kuldeep Yadav trapped the spinner LBW for zero, leaving the Aussies at 9/258.

Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood fought hard and got Australia to 300, but Hazlewood was dismissed for 21 just as Australia got to the milestone. Starc finished 29 not out.

Yadav also finished with five wickets for the innings, but his job was not done as Virat Kohli decided to enforce the follow-on, as the Indians still had a first innings lead of 322.

Kohli’s decision meant this was the first time in 31 years Australia, on home soil, had been sent back in by the opposition to bat again after being dismissed in the first innings.

The Australian openers Usman Khawaja (4 not out) and Marcus Harris (2 not out) only had to face the four overs due to bad light and rain.

There was only a total of 25.2 overs played for the entirety of day four.

Australia will resume the final day 0/6, trailing India by 316 runs. The task is simple for Tim Paine’s side – bat the day out and draw the Test.

Kohli, on the other hand, will be looking to claim a 3-1 series victory.
