Australia will turn their Cricket World Cup campaign up a notch as they take to the field in Nottingham to take on the power hitting and danger of the West Indies. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:30pm (AEST).
The Aussies come into this game having demolished Afghanistan in their opener, but there will still be plenty for them to learn out of that contest.
While they were the better team, they will be disappointed in the fact they let Afgahnistan from a position where it looked like they wouldn’t score 100, to the point where they got 207.
After a fantastic start with the ball, Australia’s bowlers became wayward. Adam Zampa wasn’t at all consistent, and the pace bowlers were generally too short.
Bowling too short is the last thing they will want to do at a docile Trent Bridge against a side who will free the arms and hit anything that moves.
If, however, they can get that right, their batting, led by the returned David Warner and Steve Smith, is looking in fine nick and comes up against an unfancied West Indian attack.
In saying that, the West Indian attack were excellent in their World Cup opener, dismantling Pakistan for just 104.
The performance made life easy for their ominous batting line-up, who made short work of the target and ensured they were heading back to the team hotel shortly after lunch time.
The West Indies, while not consistent, have the potential to be the most dangerous team in world cricket, led by Andre Russell and Chris Gayle, while Jason Holder provides some sort of stability as captain.
Weather may also play a part in this match, although the forecast had improved significantly at last check.
Prediction
It’s always tough making a tip when the West Indies are involved. They are a dangerous outfit at the worst of times, but the Australian bowlers should be able to keep them in check just enough here, although the weather could throw a spanner in the works.
Australia in a close one.

I take it that was tongue in cheek?

Starc is back rest of the world be afraid, be very afraid! Also the first team to consistently have slips, bat pads and other aggressive fielding options in the middle overs will change this game. So many chances pop up into the air through those positions

Coulter Nile is a real question mark right now. Batted superbly and won us the game so deserves to stay in the side but his bowling was very poor. Stoinis almost the opposite. We have a bowling all rounder that is batting better than he's bowling and a batting all rounder that's bowling better than he is batting. Will need to significantly improve against India. Need a lot more runs from the top order, can't rely on Carey and NCN to dig us out of a hole alongside Smith. Carey should bat above Maxwell and Stoinis on current form as well.

AUSTRALIA DEFEAT WEST INDIES BY 15 RUNS Australia have put on a superb recovery to take victory by just 15 runs over the West Indies at Trent Bridge in their second World Cup match. Australia found themselves at 5 for 71 at one point after being put into bat, but Steve Smith, Alex Carey and Nathan Coulter-Nile led the charge in a startling recovery, taking them to 288. From there, the Aussies managed to hang on, despite some nervy moments in the field. Australia: 10/288 (49) West Indies: 9/273 (50)

I mean wow what a game that had endless shifts of memuntum and an amazing comeback from Australia the score doesn't really justify how good a game that was.

There was a starc difference between our batsmen and bowlers. Our bowlers doing it both.

If stoinis really has worked hard on his Yorkers and it seems he has almost mastered this art, if it is not a one_off and continues his death bowling form then he suddenly is the most important player for Australia and the most valuable all rounder in this world cup
